A policewoman

Lauren looked up to see a policewoman looking down at her. A typhoon of fear came over Lauren. Was she discovered? Did people actually realize that she was an adult and thought she was some sick freak?!

_This is it! _Lauren thought in terror. My life is over! She’s going to arrest me and I’m going to jail! My secret will get out and I’ll go from “Lauren the Ice Queen” to “Lauren the Diaper Girl”! And that’s the best case scenario! Lauren gulped as she saw the officer kneel down to Lauren’s eye level.

“Little girl, where are your parents?” the police officer asked gently.

This both calmed Lauren down a bit and humiliated her. On the one hand, they hadn’t realized that she was an adult so she wasn’t getting arrested. On the other hand, it was a major blow to her pride to realize that this policewoman had mistook her for a child. Turning a bright pink, Lauren realized she had yet to answer her question.

“Actually, I came here with –“ Lauren began as she looked around the policewoman towards the park bench where Jessie was sitting. However, she gasped when she saw Jessie was gone. The policewoman looked over her shoulder to where Lauren was looking and saw nothing.

“Was your mommy or daddy sitting there, sweetie?” The officer asked, looking back to the flabbergasted Lauren.

“But…she…I…where…” Lauren stammered. It finally hit her as she realized that Jessie had just left her at the park! No car, no clothes, no ID; she just left her here in only a diaper! Lauren felt her lip begin to quiver as her eyes began to water. Sniffing, Lauren began bawling in humiliation.

“It’s okay, sweetie.” The officer said as she began to hug Lauren, misreading the meaning of the little woman’s tears. “I’m sure your mommy didn’t get to far.”

Standing up, the officer – whose name was Janet from what Lauren read on her badge – reached down and took Lauren’s hand, raising the little woman to her feet.

“Well, why don’t you tell me what she looks like, and we’ll find your mommy together?” Officer Janet said gently, not realizing that she was only adding to Lauren’s humiliation.

Calming down a bit, Lauren then began to describe Jessie as best as she could. Nodding, Janet led Lauren away from the playground to search for Jessie. Lauren saw some of the kids (and even some of the parents) giggling at her, causing her to blush. Lauren had to fight her urges to cover her chest, or else Janet would get suspicious. A few minutes into their search Lauren looked around and saw Jessie sitting on another bench, drinking a bottle of water.

“That’s her over there, Officer!” Lauren called out.

Janet looked over to where Lauren was pointing and led the little woman over to the bench. Jessie looked to her left and was surprised to see a policewoman holding Lauren’s hand.

“Excuse me, Ma’am?” Janet asked. “Is this your child? I found her playing by herself at the playground, where she was scared that you weren’t there.”
