A pentagram

‘A pentagram? Here? What is going on?’ Ciara wondered as she examined the silver pentagram before her. As far as she could see it was the kind of pentagram used for summoning – mostly to summon demons, but also some other creatures. It couldn’t be used to summon Trolls, though, nor could it be the work of Trolls – this pentagram was definitely the work of some very skilled spellcaster, as indicated by the runes used. A Troll would not have the skills or the knowledge to create such a thing. So why was this pentagram here? And why was it left unguarded? It didn’t make any sense.

After carefully examining the area around the large pentagram Ciara found no sign of any traps – magical or not. She also discovered that the area had been widened recently, no more than a month ago, most likely to provide room for the pentagram.

‘Interesting. Why is such a thing here? Perhaps someone was planning on using this pentagram to summon something – or someone – but the Trolls changed that? They probably wouldn’t know how to deal with this kind of problem even if some of them are able to use magic. No, that can’t be right. Only a fool would make such pentagram without first making sure it won’t be discovered easily. A fool… or someone ****…”

Ciara kept thinking about the pentagram’s origin for a bit longer, and then her thoughts turned to what to do next. She could leave the pentagram undisturbed and wait to see what – if anything – would happen. She could destroy it to avoid any potential “complications” that could arise later. Or she could take advantage of this opportunity and use the pentagram to summon something – maybe a creature to play with, or perhaps something to help her with her task. She knew how to summon many different creatures, and some of them had abilities she did not possess. Perhaps such a creature could find something she had missed…
