A pair of socks.

"Here," Lisa said as she handed Erica a pair of socks. Erica put them on, even though she personally would have forgone the socks if she was only getting two articles of clothing. When she looked back up at Lisa, she was sitting on her bed putting on her shoes. "What else?" Erica pressed when Lisa didn't give her any more attention.

"What do you mean?" Lisa asked.

"You said I get two articles of clothing," Erica reminded her. "The socks are one. What else are you giving me?"

Lisa laughed. "I didn't say two 'articles' of clothing, I said two 'items.'" She pointed at Erica's feet. "Right sock, left sock. Two items." She finished tying her shoes and walked out the door while Erica sat there in shock.

"What do I do now?" she asked herself.
