A magic ring!

Rose passed the mage, making sure to look the other way. As she passed she bumped him with her shoulder. While they impacted, her clever and lightning fast hand slipped into his pocket. She felt something metallic and hard and withdrew it, slipping it up her sleeve. Less then half a second had passed and she'd robbed the wizard.

The wizard mumbled an apology and kept walking. Rose checked, making sure he had not noticed the theft. He did not seem to react, wandering past on his way. Grinning, Rose hurried out of the crowded square. Slipping into a secluded alley she pulled out her price.

She gasped when she saw what it was. A platinum ring with a large ruby fixed atop it! this would be worth a thousand gold! She could buy a bar, a brothel, a ship with that much money! It was one of the biggest scores of her life, on a simple pick pocket job!

She smiled wickedly. Served that old wizard right, to senile to keep himself from getting robbed. She marveled at the ring's beauty. Then, out of curiosity she slipped it on her ring finger to try it on. Little did she realize it was a magic ring, and wearing it granted an enchantment some might call a curse!
