Chapter 14

What's next?

A long ride

It had only been a couple hours since me and June had left his office, and yet the world felt completely different. The drive back home was a blur, and we had barely gotten anytime to freshen up the car had arrived. Now, we both were in the car, well more like a limo, that Dr. Grey had sent to pick us up. I was sitting next to the window, watching the scenery rush by as I called my boyfriend, who picked up on the second dial.

"Isha, what's up, babe?"

"Listen, Jake, I-," I looked over to June, who stretched her hand out to me and squeezed my hand. "I can't make it tonight, my professor wanted to work with us after hours and its an offer I can't really refuse."

I heard a sigh on the other end and bit my lip in nervousness. "It's fine, we'll reschedule it." He said, a few seconds later. "Everything's alright though, right? Maybe it's just my phone but your voice sounds a little shaky."

"Yeah, I'm alright, the connection's pretty bad. I can't really hear you properly either." I replied, relief flowing through my body.

"Well, alright then. I'll see you later then, babe. Love you."

"Love you too." I replied, before cutting the phone before turning to June.

"How was it?" She asked, turning her phone off and placing it to the side.

I sighed softly and shook my head slowly, "Easier than I expected, much easier. Which makes it even more fucked up." I looked down once more, before raising my head. "It's funny, all of it thrown away just like that."

"Are you going to break up with him?" June asked, squeezing my hand once more.

A bitter smile creeped onto my face. "What other choice do I have? I can't keep dragging him along, right?" I took a deep breath and looked out again, "I think I'll do it tomorrow, in person. Jake's a good guy, he doesn't deserve this."

June nodded, holding my hand tighter for the rest of the ride.

We arrived about ten minutes later. Both of us stepped out to see what could only be described as a mansion taken straight out of Hollywood. Chrome and glass glimmered as the sun set behind it. The dying light casting long, mesmerizing shadows across the immaculate driveway. I heard the car start up behind me, and turned around to see the car drive away. Right next to me was June, who nodded at me.

I stood still for a few seconds, before nodding back. Both of us then moved towards the door and rang the doorbell.
