Chapter 6 by Quelch Quelch

What's beyond the door?

A load more exes

Seated and standing around an indoor bar area decorated as girly as the rest of the women’s half of the mansion, were all friends of Janet’s; friends who Devin had given the ol’ hump and dump.

There was Tanya, a goth girl who Devin had wooed, banged and abandoned in college; pale skinned and wearing dark clothing interspersed with white stripes.

Stacey, an airhead who was annoying to listen to, but great in bed; blonde, tanned and dressed in skimpy clothes and lots of jewellery, though it seemed since then she had had a few procedures done since Devin saw her last.

Julia was a hipster, for whom Devin had pretended to be emotionally deep and into the same bands and social causes as her, and who still rocked an indie aesthetic.

Rebecca was an older friend of Janet’s, surprisingly hot for somebody in her 30s eight years ago, and now in her 40s she was just as stunning.

Charlene used to be Janet’s housemate, having travelled from Texas to make her fortune, and dressed like a stereotypical rodeo girl; Devin had romanced her through song lyrics before avoiding her calls after pumping his baby gravy into her.

Maria was possibly the best lay Devin ever had; a tomboy and MMA fighter, she was taller and far more fit than him, and Devin could see she had only gained more muscle and definition since he last saw her by the way her tank top clung to her large bosom and tight stomach. She was always hard to read, so he had always been wary around her.

It took Devin a while to recognise Clarice; what once was the meek nerdy girl whose cherry Devin had popped was now an elegant and put-together businesswoman type; it seemed like his broken-hearted conquests had a pattern.

All the girls looked at Devin, and an awkward silence broke out between them as he was glued to the spot in fear.

Charlene was the one to break the ice, greeting him with “Well howdy there! You must be one of Janet’s friends, right? What’s yur name?”.

Devin tried to sound as feminine as possible when he said, “I’m D-D-Davina!”, but it came out squeaky and croaky.

“Oh, is something wrong with your voice, dear?”, asked Rebecca with motherly concern.

Devin saw an excuse and nodded, only to be asked “What’s up with it?” by Julia.

Devin opened his mouth to reply instinctively but froze as he failed to come up with an answer.

Luckily, Stacey misinterpreted his hesitation; “Oh, you like swallowed some of the solution when you got your teeth whitened? I like totally did that once and my voice was super weird for a week!”

“Oh you poor thing! I’m sure the facilities here will be able to fix that for you”, Clarice advised.

The initial awkwardness over, Davina sat down with the others and drank a beer Maria casually tossed to him, grateful for one small reprieve from the hell he had found himself in.

The girls all introduced themselves, talking about their lives and how they got there; it turns out they had all been sought out and hired specifically by Annie through Janet’s suggestions, and despite all being friends with Devin’s sister, they were all strangers to one another, apart from Tanya and Clarice, and Julia and Charlene.

Annie it seemed wanted a diverse group of people she could trust, rather than the standard parade of braindead Instagram models (although Julia, Tanya and Stacey could have fitted into this category).

Though they were doing it as a favour to Annie and Janet, they were all pretty pumped to be on a gameshow, plus they didn’t have to stick with their hubbies at the end if they didn’t want to.

While the group was chatting in small groups, two of the girls sat either side of Devin.

Who are the girls?
