An affiliate of RealDreams, the Dreamscape hotel chain sprung up in order to fill a gap in the market. For some, full-time ownership of a character was not a realistic proposition, especially for those less privileged. Aside from the prohibitive element of cost, there were the practical considerations like security measures, clothing, accommodation arrangements and maintenance. Even fictitious characters need to be washed, fed and provided for. A Hermione delivered in pristine condition could become dishevelled and malnourished in a matter of weeks if neglected, as was sadly the case with many impulse purchases. It didn’t help that faced with the double whammy of existential dread and their consent being utterly violated, characters often had little motivation to properly look after themselves. At Dreamscape all of that was taken care of for you, and for the purpose of indulging a fantasy for a night or two, or three, or even a whole week, it was a more economical alternative to ownership.

Of course there were other hotel chains that emerged offering competition at cheaper rates, however these tended to be more seedy places in back streets with fetid, grimy bedrooms that lent credence to the notion that such establishments were little more than glorified brothels, an accusation frequently levied by W.A.R., and more latterly by SPLEW (Society for the Protection of the Likeness of Emma Watson, an organisation which had struggled to gain much traction since the general consensus was the purpose of Hermione Grangers was to be enslaved and most were happier that way). Dreamscape by contrast had attained a glowing reputation for their first rate premium service and immersive experiences that set them apart, gradually expanding to open up venues all across the world.

From browsing their website you see that their prestigious reputation is reflected in how the company presents itself, the header and navigation menus presented with subdued accents of cream and burgundy, avoiding any lurid colour choices, with enticing but tasteful shots of characters from popular IPs filling the margins. Beneath the final paragraph on the homepage is an FAQ:

Q: Will my character be consenting?

A: All of our characters are fitted with an industry standard behavioural modification chip that will prevent them from engaging in hostile behaviour. The signal strength can be increased to ensure full consent, however this can result in a loss of personality. For a fully authentic experience we recommend the default setting.

Q: Can I spank my character?

A: We permit impact play that results in minor bruising or abrasions to the skin, however any activity that results in scarring or permanent damage may incur additional charges.

Q: Can I take my character out of the hotel?

A: Characters may leave the premises ONLY when fitted with the electronic leash provided, and must remain leashed at all times and be returned prior to your check-out time. Failure to do so will result in additional charges.

Character selection is accessed via a separate tab on the main menu which opens up a search box, with filters for location and availability. You see that there is a recently opened venue only a few miles away in your nearest city, with bookings available within the next week.
