A futile effort

Chapter 4 by Krone Krone

The Croft sisters could hear the screams, the shouts, and the clash of steel against steel. They knew there was nothing they could do but wait, and watch, and hope that their sacrifice was noticed.

The battle raged on for hours, the defenders of Hadria pushing back against the onslaught of the enemy forces. But in the end, it was a futile effort. The city was breached, and the enemy forces stormed the streets, looting and pillaging without mercy.

Gemma and Jenna could only watch in horror as their beloved city was destroyed. Eventually, the enemy forces reached the gates of the city, where the Croft sisters and their small battalion were stationed.

A single soldier stepped forward, flanked by two others. He was tall and broad-shouldered, with a face that had seen too much war.

“We will not surrender,” Gemma said, her voice strong but her eyes hard with fear.

The soldier regarded her coolly. “Very well,” he said. “You will be taken as slaves and used as we see fit.”

Gemma and Jenna glanced at each other, the realization of their fate sinking in. There was no going back. They had no choice but to surrender.

They were taken as prisoners of war and marched through the streets of Hadria, the destruction of their beloved city a painful reminder of their defeat. Eventually, they arrived at an encampment, where they were stripped of their weapons and belongings and thrown into a tent, to await their fate.

The days passed slowly, the hours slowly ticking by. Gemma and Jenna spent their time in silence, contemplating their plight and the futility of their actions. They had fought for something, for what seemed like a noble cause, but in the end, it had come to nothing.

The sisters had no idea what the future would bring, but they knew one thing for certain. War was a price that no one should have to pay, and loyalty had its own price.
