A few difficulties, but they manage!

Back at the fight about to break out

"Naruto, be very careful with Itachi," Kakashi told Naruto, pulling up his headband to expose his own Sharingan to counter Itachi's as much as possible.

"Yeah, I know, don't look into his eyes, got it," Naruto growled, before pausing, having an idea, and turning to Anko, and whispered, "I wish I was immune to any genjutsu or any other mental influences that would make me act in any manner I don't consent to, sexually included." He made sure to cover Itachi's line of sight, knowing the Sharingan could read lips.

Anko's copy blinked, before smiling, and discreetly snapping her fingers. "Make all the plans ya want, they won't save you!" Kisame declared, making several hand seals. "Water Style, Water Rolling Waves!" he declared. He spewed out a massive wave of water at them.

"Earth Style: Great Mud Wall!" Kakashi answered, making his own hand seals, and slapping his hands to the ground, blocking the Water Jutsu with his Earth Style defense. Unfortunately, Kisame smashed his way right through it seconds later.

Temari sprung into action, swinging her fan, and blasting bladed winds right at Kisame, who smirked, and slashed Samehada, which consumed the chakra in the attack. "What the hell?" Temari demanded.

Kisame smirked. "Samehada eats chakra. It comes quite in handy."

"Oh, that's bullshit!" Anko whined, thinking that ability was as broken as hell. Temari on the other hand, got creative. She swing her fan again, blasting the ground, using the attack to launch a good amount of dust and debris at Kisame. He growled, pelted slightly, but since none of the stones were made with chakra, only launched by an attack using chakra, he couldn't have Samehada consume them.

Anko then grinned, realizing that Temari had the right idea. Direct hits from techniques requiring chakra wouldn't work against Kisame... But anything else? She proceeded to make multiple clones with magic, not chakra. They surrounded Kisame, who smirked at them, not realizing the issue yet.

Meanwhile, several Shadow Clones of Naruto and Kakashi managed to corner Itachi, the Uchiha surprised when he realized his initial genjutsu attempt on Naruto failed. And Naruto kept locating him despite his other standard illusions. How had he gotten so good at seeing through Genjutsu so easily? Was the Nine Tails helping him break it? If so... why wouldn't Naruto be using the chakra of the Tailed Beast? If they were on terms that good, he should have that kind of access. Regardless, he still proved slippery, using Fire Jutsu, Shurikenjutsu, and Taijutsu to hold off both Naruto and Kakashi. Genjutsu was his specialty, but even with that taken away, he was still dangerous.

Even when they thought they cornered him, and a Naruto Clone drove a kunai into his chest... a massive explosion erupted from Itachi, and blasted away Naruto, Kakashi, and dispelled Naruto's Shadow Clones. "Argh, Kakashi-Sensei!" Naruto yelped as he rolled. Kakashi grunted as he skidded to a halt, and then, right behind him, Itachi emerged from the ground, having used a burrowing jutsu to hide underground. He then stabbed at Kakashi, who managed to pull off a Substitution Jutsu to escape the move.

"An Exploding Shadow Clone..." Kakashi grunted from near Naruto as he shot a Water Jutsu at Itachi, who evaded.

Back with Temari and Anko against Kisame, they had taken their fight into a valley, which Kisame had flooded and filled with sharks he had Summoned. Anko however managed to counter those sharks by Summoning sea snakes. Temari meanwhile kept her distance, waiting for an opening to execute some kind of plan, hiding uphill among some trees. She had her fan fully open, charging up her chakra while weasels she had Summoned were busy working on assisting her with her plan.

Kisame was bewildered as Anko and her clones fought him, but each blow from Samehada failed to drain any chakra from her copies. Or even dispell them. Instead, they just kept up pressure against him as they fought on the surface of the water, using kunai and shuriken. Occasionally, a shark would leap from the water to try to bite one of the Anko clones, the sea snakes doing the same with Kisame.

"Gah! You're an annoying little bitch!" Kisame grunted, avoiding another strike from one of the venoumous snakes. "Just hurry up and let me shave you to the bone!"

Anko smirked, twirling a kunai with her middle finger, extended upward at Kisame. "You're annoying too... fortunately, I'm just a distraction..."

Kisame's eyes widened, and he turned his head in time to see Temari release a fucking maelstrom at him. That wouldn't be much of a problem, as his blade could just eat all the chakra, but that wasn't even the main attack. No, that was all the shrapnel flying at him, propelled by the jutsu. The weasels had cut down and sharpened a multitude of trees to serve as the real attack, along with boulders.

Kisame attempted to shield himself from the worst of it, but a large snake burst from the water and bit down on his sword arm, forcing him to drop Samehada. The attack smashed right into him, and he gave a scream as he was flung back, torn up to a serious degree. Of course, all of the Anko clones above the surface of the water were also subject to the attack, but she had a copy hiding out under the surface. So long as she had one magic copy survive, she didn't need to worry about being taken out and unable to further help the mission.

Once things settled, the surving Anko copy emerged, grinning as violet mist wafted into the air, the bodies of the other copies melting away into it. She drew it all back to herself. "Nice one," she told Temari, who dashed over, running on the surface of the water.

"Think we got him," she said, approaching Kisame, who wasn't moving. They then paused.

"...what the fuck?" they asked simultaneously.

Back where Naruto and Kakashi were fighting Itachi, Kakashi was engaging Itachi in direct combat, exchanging blows with a few kunai, Itachi getting tired far faster than Kakashi anticipated. Kakashi wasn't going to question the good fortune, and quickly managed to pin Itachi's arms with two Shadow Clones. "Naruto, now!" Kakashi shouted, and Naruto, along with a clone, charged forward with a large Rasengan in hand.

Itachi's eyes widened, and once again tried and failed to put Naruto under genjutsu. He then skillfully kicked both of Kakashi's Shadow Clones with flexible and skillful maneuvering. They dispelled, but it was too late.

"Giant Rasengan!" Naruto shouted, slamming it right into Itachi, and smashing him into the ground, cratering it. Naruto panted, standing over Itachi, hardly daring to believe it... Then he froze as he got a good look at the body. "Um, Kakashi-sensei?"

"Okay, so we can all agree that this is odd, right?" Temari asked five minutes later, the group having joined back up, bringing their respective bodies with them. But the thing was... Neither corpse was that of Itachi's or Kisame's. It was like at the moment of ****, they had turned into someone else.

"Yeah... These were definitely Itachi and Kisame," Kakashi narrowed his eye, having lowered his headband back over his Sharingan eye again. "They had everything down to the chakra signatures..."

"But they're clearly not them!" Naruto replied. "Some kind of Transformation Jutsu then?"

"Not a normal kind... Perhaps a form of possession in tandem with Transformation?" Kakashi mused. "With some chakra, inserted into a host body, possibly allowing the user to fight through others? But that would obviously mean not having access to all of their chakra. A third at most, and no doubt hampering their abilities..."

"...you mean to say that we outnumbered them two to one, and they were fighting with a handicap, and they were still pretty tough to bring down?" Naruto asked in disbelief. "...I seriously hope Kisame and Itachi are the strongest members of Akatsuki if that's the case..."

"There's something else," Temari pointed at the corpse that has once been an extension of Itachi. "That man... I recognize him. That's Yura, a Suna Shinobi of high rank. Head of our border security actually. What he's doing here, I don't know though."

"Curiouser and curiouser..." Naruto scratched his head as Anko proceeded to pull out a scroll, and stored the bodies into it. "What's that for?" he asked her.

"Autopsies, Master, what else? I work with the information gathering division in Konoha. While I specialize in **** and Interrogation, I'm familiar enough with other methods of acquiring intel. That jutsu they used is something that we're going to want to understand, and maybe get a clear picture of why these two were walking around as Akatsuki members," Anko shrugged, stowing the scroll.

"...we need to get moving again regardless," Kakashi nodded, and they got back underway.

"...so... Kakashi-Sensei..." Naruto started to say, stars in his eyes, a look that made Kakashi extremely nervous. "About that exploding Shadow Clone jutsu Itachi used... do you know it, or maybe copy it from Itachi? Can you teach it to me?" He was mentally evilly cackling at the idea of it. Given he could make thousands of Shadow Clones, if he could make them suicide bombers as well...

Back in Suna, just as Sakura finished extracting all but the tracest amounts of poison from Kankuro's system, ensuring there wasn't enough to kill him within hours anymore, but days instead, buying her time to make an antidote, she suddenly shuddered. "Something wrong, Pinkie?" the original Anko asked.

Sakura looked at Anko. "...nothing... just had the oddest sense of existential terror..."
