Where to?

A farmhouse

As your entourage cruised the relatively empty streets of the countryside you could see miles upon miles of fields filled with golden wheat ready for harvest surrounding by brown wooden fencing. Looking to your left you could see the opposite white fencing with miles of grazing cattle such as cows or horses. You were silent watching as the wind swayed the grains of wheat with a small breeze, the air was crisp and appealing to your nostrils, while your eyes took in the beautiful light blue sky, you sat silent as you took it all in the majesty that was the countryside.

As you stared out the window the car slowly began turning right transitioning from the black paved road to a dusty dirt road kicking up alot of dust into the sky as the car first entered the road. The long dusty road soon became surrounded on both sides with tall stalks of corn surrounding you on both sides.

Soon the road came to a circle stopping in front of a white two story farmhouse with a large red barn off to the side. An old man sat in a rocking chair on the porch sound asleep with a blanket wrapped around him glasses laying on his chest connected by a small wire. Sitting next to him sat a man with a beard, a shotgun in his lap, he wore a rugged hunting vest in green foliage camouflage and watched as the Model T you were in slowly parked in front of the Farmhouse.

As soon as the car parked an old lady opened the door exiting the house. She wore a button up shirt with a white apron over it and wore a long blue skirt covering her legs. She soon walked off the porch smiling as she embraced your aunt Sadie in a hug.

You got out of the car last stretching your legs as Ted slammed the back of the car shut your luggage in hand. You watched as the old lady and your aunt talked excitedly, Ted walking into the house your luggage in hand, the old man continued sleeping his rocking chair, before the man with the shotgun in his lap locked eyes with you in a hard stare.

You swallowed before you felt soft hands interlock with your own hands. Looking down you smiled as Harmony wrapped her hand around yours before you heard the old lady speak. “Andrew stop scaring our guests you should know better by now!” The old lady yelled at the man with the shotgun in his lap. The aforementioned man flinched nodding his head taking one last hard look against you before looking away.

You sighed a breath of relief before the old lady approached you and Harmony smiling. “Ooh and look at you two! How precious the two of you look together.” The old lady said as she looked the two of you over. Harmony seemed to shrink in front of the woman’s gaze hiding herself behind you putting you between her and the old lady.

Sighing you addressed the old lady. “Hello Maim my name is Nathan BlackThorn the girl behind me is Harmony Ashcroft we came with my Aunt Sadie to spend the weekend here.” You said. The old lady seemingly froze as she heard your name while the man on the porch now stared hard at you once more now scowling before the old lady spoke raising a shaky hand towards your cheek looking you over nervously as she spoke in a near whisper.

“Can it be? Can it really be?” The old lady said as she placed a hand on your cheek she looked you over inquisitively before her hazel brown eyes met your own. She gasped tears threatened to flow from her eyes before she released a single sob before she began crying hugging you much to your confusion.

“I-I always knew it! I knew that you were out there somewhere.” The old lady said as she cried into your shoulder. You looked to Harmony who now stood your right looking back at you confused before the old lady broke the hug, smiling she placed her hands on your shoulder looking you over before speaking. “I can see it now yes your Stephanie’s boy alright I can see you have your grandfather’s eye just like she did.” The old lady said as she wiped the last of her tears away.

The old lady chuckled at your confused face before speaking. “You look so much like my daughter I remember when she was pregnant with you she was so excited wondering and waiting for you to come into the world.” The old lady said as she smiled reminiscing about the past before she spoke once more. “And now your home where you belong Nathan.”

You stood frozen still processing the word she had spoken your mind running at a thousand miles an hour before she spoke again. “Aren’t you going to give me a hug Nathan its not everyday I get see my long lost grandson.” She said holding her arms open. You only nodded embracing your grandma. She stoked your hair before speaking. “My you’ve changed so much since I last saw you Nathan we have a lot catching up to do.” You only nodded as you hugged your grandmother.
