A disaster

"Haven't you seen the news?" Ashley asks.

"Nope. What's up?"

Ashley grabs the remote off your desk and points it at your television, turning it to the news. There's a breaking news report about massive Hurricane headed for New York City. You're not an expert, but the swirling circle slowly moving towards where you are on the map seems to be insanely big.

"Woah. That's a big storm," you remark.

"Big storm?!? It's the biggest in history and it suddenly formed without warning!"

"Okay... now what? Do we order everyone to evacuate?"

"I think so, you've gotta--" Ashley is interrupted by your phone ringing and she picks it up. "Office of the mayor," she answers.

Two seconds later, she hands it over to you. "It's the governor."

You take over the hold and speak with the governor. He's just been brought up to speed by his team and he's letting you know what he'll be ordering everyone in the state to evacuate or at least head further inland, and he encourages you to do the same. You agree, and before you know it, the entire city hall is bursting with activity as everyone prepares for the major storm about to hit. As promised to the governor, you hold a press conference urging everyone in the city to leave town and pretty soon the streets are packed, more packed than you have ever remembered, as thousands of people try to flee. Many people, however, have decided to hunker down and brave the storm. Many have **** due to the late warning, and you decide to stay in town too. You send everyone away from work, including Ashley, and you sleep in your office that night before the storm hits in the morning.

As forecast, the storm is tremendous and batters the city for 2 straight days with endless winds and rain. The fire department and medical staff can only get to so many people, so you use your magic rings to help the people of New York too, having to stop time repeatedly so that you can rescue people from drowning or swept away by the strong currents. It's a huge undertaking that requires all of your magic rings, including the recently acquired flying and superspeed ones. By the time you're done, 2 days feels like 2 months. You must have saved thousands of people, teleporting them to safety without them even realizing what you did.

On the 3rd day, when you're lying on your couch in your office and exhausted, you hear a news reports on the television about 20 men, women, and children trapped in a hospital building and floating in the water that's up to their necks to survive. By some miracle, there was a payphone in the building and one of the men had dived down to dial the phone into a news station. He was live and on the line on the news, detailing their situation and praying for someone to save them. You're almost too tired to even get up, but when you hear a little girl crying in the background of the call, you crawl out of the couch, activate your super strength and flying ring, and swoop out the window of your office. You know exactly where the hospital is and you're there in 2 minutes. It's takes you another 2 minutes to figure out which building they're in as you float in the air, then you dive down and smash through the roof with your bare fists where the people are.

Their reactions are a mixture of shock and joy when they see you've come to save them, but that's also when you realize you had forgotten to stop time or make yourself invisible. Now, people will know about your abilities. As you start grabbing people out of the water, starting with the children first, you hear the man on the phone with the news station describing everything in detail, including the fact that their mayor is a superhero. You grab him last, and bring them all to a nearly roof where they are safe and military helicopters arrive to ferry them away. The pilots even salute you as they take off, and you return the salutes, then slowly float up higher and higher, looking down at the flooded city.

"Fuck it," you mutter to yourself as you prepare yourself and start flying around openly and helping people in need. Your secret is out.
