Diane sighed as Alexa and Michelle raced ahead of her. They went on ride after ride, laughing and crying from laughing.
Diane sat down on a bench while Alexa and Michelle went on the ferris wheel. Her phone rang. It was Carol. Diane answered the phone.
“How’s Lexi, is she okay?” Carol’s worried motherly voice asked.
“She’s fine,” Diane said. “She um, met someone.”
“Oh? What’s his name?” Carol asked.
“HER name is Michelle,” Diane said. “Apparently they’re good friends. Very good friends.”
“Oh…” Carol said. “Well, is there anything I should know?”
“Well,” Diane said. “Michelle is a bit similar to Lexi. I feel like I was duped into agreeing to take care of them both.”
Carol chuckled. “I thought you’d be invincible by now.”
“Apparently not,” Diane said. “So… you may come home to two kids rather than one.”
Carol smiled. “I had called to tell Lexi something. There’s a big change coming.”
“Oh?” Diane said.
“Yes… you see, Paul and I were talking,” she said. “I love him, but… it’s not… it’s not working out.”
“Oh,” Diane said. “Well, what does that mean?”
“Well, on one hand, I’ll be coming home sooner. On the other, Paul won’t really be around,” she said.
“I see,” Diane said.

Meanwhile on the Ferris Wheel
“How exactly did you end up with that woman?” Michelle asked.
“It’s a long story,” Alexa said as she filled Michelle in with what happened.
“Wow,” she said. “That’s pretty crazy. And you trust this woman?”
Alexa nodded. “She’s been nothing but gracious.”
“And this Diana or Diane figure?” Michelle asked.
“I… I trust her enough,” she said. “If she had an ulterior motive, I think it would have come out by now.”
Michelle nodded. “So… this boy… should I be jealous?”
Alexa blushed and giggled. “Don’t tell me you still like me, Milly,” Alexa said
Michelle kissed Alexa on the cheek. “Maybe I do,” she said. “So… what do you want to do?”
Alexa thought about it. She definitely had feelings for Devin, but Michelle… she was so different…
