Chapter 5 by haileytraynor haileytraynor

Who does she get the attention of?

A cute boy

Alexa’s eyes widened as a cute guy in a red shirt and khakis came over. “Hi, I’m Danny, how can I help you?” The guy asked.

“I was wondering if you could give me some help with my daughter,” Helen said. “Do you think she’s old enough to wear these?”

Alexa paled at the phrasing as if she might be too YOUNG to wear them. “Oh those are cute,” Danny said. “I dunno too much about girls’ underwear, but I’m sure they’d look cute on her. And if you get a third pack, you can actually get a discount on the lot.”

“Oh! I didn’t even notice,” Helen said. “Thank you so much for your help. See, Alexa. I told you you could wear these. Just because you still need di-”

“Mom!” Alexa shrieked.

“Special underwear,” Helen corrected. “Doesn’t mean you’re not old enough for panties.”

Danny was still looking as Helen picked up a pack of Dora the Explorer waving them around. Alexa cringed as Helen tossed all three packs in the cart and said. “You’re lucky I’m even buying you underwear still.”

Danny walked away as he moved on to another customer. “Mom, you’re embarrassing me,” Alexa hissed.

“I’m just shopping with my baby girl. Is that a crime?” Helen said.

“Mom…” Alexa said.

“It’s not my fault you still need diapers, which we will be buying by the way,” Helen said. “I want no protests. We need more and there’s no point on making separate trips just because you’re embarrassed about needing them.”

Alexa sighed as she followed Helen as she gazed at the other girls’ clothing.

“Mom, please. Let’s go to the Women’s section,” Alexa pleaded.

“Nonsense, these still fit you, and they’re cheaper,” Helen said as she held up a short poofy pink dress in front of Alexa.

“But they’re made for… kids…” Alexa said.

“So what? I still wear clothes made for Young adults even though I’m 45,” Helen said.

“But that’s not the same thing,” Alexa said.

“Maybe we should ask someone what they think you should be wearing,” Helen said.

“No! Not another person, please,” Alexa said.

“Okay, then let’s keep looking over here,” Helen said. “You’re really starting to push my tolerance, Alexa. I am not here to have you complain about every little thing I do. I’m just here to spend time with you and buy you new clothing. Push your luck and I can become the embarrassing mom very easily.”
