Chapter 36 by Caesar25 Caesar25

What's next?

A cloning conspiracy

You arrive on Sleheyron and fly right at the given coordinates. They point you to a hangar at the rustyard sector of the planet. That's where Drek's ship is already parked, next to a few other ships.

Sleheyron used to be one of the most important economic powerhouses of Hutt Space, rivaled by Nar Shaddaa and Nal Hutta only. The planet is a volcanic one, with billions of people living in huge urban areas, most of whom work in the different mining areas below or around the big cities. The major export of the planet used to be Tibanna gas, however, its once vast deposits have started to dwindle in the last couple of centuries, leading to the slow decline of this industrial world. Nowadays, it's mostly profiting from **** trade (most of whom work in the mines, with an **** **** rate due to zero protection), despite Republic regulations in its own territory.

After landing, you spot a slaver whipping his **** next to a ship, yelling at him for mistaking the Malastarian fuel for Peragian fuel. This ruined the engine of his ship, and now he threatens to castrate him and his whole family before sending them to the Tibanna gas mines to perish there for this mistake. You would like to help, but have more pressing matters at hand. You walk to Drek's ship and find your old friends aboard, waiting for you.

Ranvi (coming to hug you): Lana!

Lana (hugging them both): Guys, you can't believe how much I have been missing you two! And my armour too, I see you have brought it with you, so Ashoka was successful in returning it!

Drek: Happy to see you in one piece. Yes, Ashoka brought it back to us to safekeep it for you, brought it, thought it might come handy. Forgive my manners Lana, but we have little time to waste. We did a little investigation into your matter and found some concerning things...

Lana: I'm all ears, I want to know all the details!

You three sit down and have a lengthy chat. They both came here without authorization of the council for a mission, so they will soon grow suspicious about the aim of their sudden leave, hence time is of the essence. Drek explains how he sliced the security system of the temple and rewatched the footage of your entrance into the temple before your massacre in the archives. He found it interesting that, having zoomed in on your sabre, it was a different design from the ones you have. Not to mention you were only using a single lightsaber for the video's whole duration and there was no sign of you having an other on your belt. Why hold back and take only one saber, when fighting in a place full of well-trained Jedi? This led him to speculate about you having been cloned. At first, you laugh off the idea, but giving it more thought, this could very well be the case. Despite not having proof that anyone has ever been able to clone a Jedi, which seems to be an impossible feat, there seems to be no other way. He tried to browse through the Kaminoian data about the clones and found a restricted archive, which was too well defended to be sliced from afar. He devised a plan: you three must infiltrate the Kaminoian cloning facility, and he will look at the data stored in that archive, hoping it might contain some clues about this whole case.

Lana (still not believing you were cloned): Drek, I appreciate the amount of thought you have put into this plan but... I have two objections. First: I still don't think anyone can clone a Jedi, this is just simply ridiculous! If it was possible, we would be having a Jedi clone army right now! Not to mention their aging...

Drek: It could be possible, don't underestimate the Kaminoan scientists! As for the aging... The clones themselves were created with accelerated aging, perhaps your clone was given an extra dose or something. Maybe they had a secret project about this going on for years if not decades, which they want to hide from the Republic.

Lana: Maybe... Second: Kamino is almost as strongly defended as Coruscant! How in the blazes do you plan to infiltrate the place without being caught?! It's swarming with clones, Master Shaak Ti is overseeing the base, there's no way she won't find us!

Drek: Don't worry, I have already started working on the details! Among us, you are the only one they would want to arrest, right? Ranvi and I aren't fugitives, so we could pass through the base relatively smoothly until we reach the databank area, which is restricted. Getting you in, however, would be a harder nut to crack.

Ranvi: What if she stays here and waits for our return?

Lana: No way am I going to sit here waiting, when there's even the slightest chance of another of me walking around the galaxy and causing trouble in my name!

Drek: I knew you wouldn't stay away! Besides, we'll need you to create a distraction while we get into the restricted area. The databank is designed to sound the alarm whenever someone tries to get near it without already possessing the deactivation codes. I won't bother to deactivate the alarm, just slice into the datafiles as quickly as I can, while you will have been causing trouble to make them sound the alarm already by the time I get to the databanks. They won't notice our meddling while focusing their attention on a rogue Jedi in the facility!

Lana: Well... We have done crazier things in the past so, I'm in!

Drek: Great! There's just one more little thing you might not like about the plan...

Lana: There's always something, isn't there?

Drek: Every ship entering Tipoca City goes through a scan, to determine who and what's on board. If they do that and find you, we are already busted. So you must leave the ship before we get scanned.

Lana: Seriously? You want to catapult me into orbit or what?!

Drek: No, of course not! Not into orbit at least!

Lana: Great...

Drek: The constant stormy weather of the planet will allow us to get closer to the base, blaming the thunderstorm, I could convince them we must fly low to avoid the lightning. Coming up with a story like, the ship's fuel compartment area was hit by a small asteroid and even the smallest lightning could blow the ship up, blablabla! Once we are above the water, you'll have to jump into it before they scan us, then swim your way to the city. They do regular scans of the seas too, so you can't bring anything big and synthetic with you. The bioscans won't matter, they won't be able to tell you from the many fish living in the water!

Lana: Hold on! I'll have to swim a few kilometers in that seastorm to get there? How am I even supposed to get into the city from the water undetected?!

Drek (scratching his head): Well... Don't you worry, I know you'll figure something out!

Lana: So that's my problem basically... Wonderful! And about that synthetic part... That means... What exactly? Do I have to leave my lightsabers here? I want them back as soon as possible!

Drek: Sure, they'll be back in your hands, ASAP! But that's not all... Khm, this is the part you'll like the least.

Lana: Less than the stormy swimming part unarmed?

Drek: Yes...

Ranvi: Lana, please don't get this the wrong way but... You'll have to be...

Drek: Naked.

Lana (taking a few deep breaths with your eyes closed before answering): Let me get this straight... You want me to swim a few kilometers in that storm, survive unarmed with all the sealife around me without drowning or being eaten, find a way to get into the city... All that, while I'm practically not wearing anything but my birthday suit... Did I get you correctly?

Drek: Well, yes, basically.

Ranvi (shaking her head): You got it all the wrong way...

Lana: Where's the "good way" in that?!

Ranvi: Think of it as a little effort to catch your clone! You want to catch her, right? This is all it might take!

Lana (sarcastically): Wow, that makes it sound a whole lot better... Let's say I get to the city... I don't suppose there will be a random door at the water's surface to enter.

Drek: Not really, but they must be having safety measures to save anyone who falls into the water.

Lana: How much time did you spend thinking on this plan? Because it seems you were only thinking about getting yourself into where you are needed!

Ranvi: Don't start fighting now, I know your way inside will be more... "Adventurous", but if somebody can pull that off, it's you!

Lana: Yeah, it's always me who has to pull such stunts off... Hmm... I might have somebody I could ask for assistance... If he agrees to help me of course... Okay, fine, I'll do my part, just make sure you'll get that blasted data!

Drek: I promise!

Lana (turning around): Then let's go, I have a sea to swim in while skinny dipping!

Ranvi (whispering to Drek): Didn't she say it a little too enthusiastically?

Drek (whispering back): I expected her to object more harshly, so, I guess she doesn't mind it THAT much!

Lana (looking back): What was that?!

Ranvi and Derk: Nothing!

Drek takes off and your little group starts speeding towards Kamino, the clone homeworld. On the way you contact your acquaintance, whom you hope to convince to help you. Boba Fett. At first he's ****, even if Mandalore asks him to do so, tricking his fellow clone brothers has never been a pleasant thing for him to do. Ultimately he agrees, he'll get into the city and wait for you at an emergency door just above the sea level.
