Chapter 11 by GreenBean GreenBean

What does Jessica wake up to?

A buzzing in the brain.

Her head tickled. No pleasantly, but not unpleasantly either. Like her head were too small for her mind fit tight in her skull. She felt no sores or aches outside of her numb throat and aching head. Jessica opened her eyes, the sky was still colorful, not much time had passed. The sky was if anything more vivid. The moon loomed over her, like the pupil of an eye, fixed on her. Her breath was steady and measured. Discomfort filled her, not out of pain, but out of a desire to move, to know more, to have more strength instead of weakness, to be a predator and not prey. She wanted little else. And she knew it not a mere discomfort. It was a hunger as real as her physical hunger. And she would starve all the same if she didn't sate it.

Jessica brought herself to her feet. Surveying her surroundings, still feeling the moon's stare, Jessica saw her ravager still asleep, its curious silver attachment smooth at its crotch, as if it were genderless. Its strange silver spear was in its hand too. A solid weapon and defense in this night. Her grenade was too little, it was one attack. The spear was a multitude. A weapon the beast had acquired and had found adequate. It hold it would be to hold some of the beast's strength. But it may not release it's prizes easily.
