A book without a title

As you look over the different covers one book catches your attention.

“Which story is that?” you ask as you point at a heavy book without a title written on its black cover.

“I… don’t know. Let me have a look.” Your companion answers as she quickly picks up the heavy tome and starts looking over the pages. As you patiently wait for her to say something you notice her face growing paler by the second.

“What… the hell… is this?” Doe mumbles, her voice betraying her worry.

“What’s wrong? Which story is this?” You ask her, not sharing her worry just yet. Her answer changes that in an instant.

“It’s not a fairy tale. It’s… It’s… I think the best description is ‘a mix of twisted fairy tales’. It features characters from many different stories – some good and some bad. But all of them have been changed. Many of the good characters have turned evil while some of the bad guys are no longer so bad! It’s… It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen!” Doe sounds confused and worried.

“How is that even possible?” You ask her while trying to figure out what effect this will have on your task

“I… don’t know! I told you I’ve never seen anything like this before. I thought it was just a theory!”

“Well, I guess someone found a way to turn it into reality. So? What do I need to do about it?”

“Well… technically there’s already a ‘happily ever after’ to this story, so there’s no need to do anything, but…”

“But what? Will it have any effect on our mission?”

“That’s just it. I don’t know. Like I said, until now this was just a crazy theory. I have no knowledge about such books… if they can be called books at all, since they consist of pages ripped out of other books. If we enter this story…” Doe pauses for a few seconds, hesitating, before finishing her sentence. “If we enter we MIGHT be able to find or do something that will help us with the other stories. Or it could turn out to be a big waste of time. In any case since this ‘fairy tale’ is so different I can’t even guarantee that you’ll be a human in it.”

“Oh. I see.” You say as you go over everything you have been told so far. It pays off. “Wait, you said this story already has a happy end, albeit a twisted one. So if we enter we’ll be able to leave at any time, right?”

“Uh… you’re right.” Doe seems surprised that she didn’t think of this first.

“Then we can enter, have a look, and leave if we decide not to do anything, right?”

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, but yes, we can do it. So, do you want to enter this realm?” Doe looks at you waiting for your answer.
