A Zombie pack sighting near the Home Base

Sergeant Foreman's POV

Before you were completely done asking Emily Karlsson information about her past training with the Swedish military, Zachary hurried back to the lobby from his lookout post in the closest street, an alarmed look on his face.

"Sergeant Foreman! There are zombies approaching!"

You got back on your feet immediately and were silently pleased to note that so did the new recruit in a split second. Clearly, her combat-readiness instincts had not grown too dull with time off-duty just yet.

"How many?" You asked in a calm, yet firm tone, needing to take control of the situation to prevent panic flaring among the building residents under your care.

The computer science student hesitated for a moment before answering. "Nine, I think? I saw them heading up the hill through the street, but I hurried back here to warn you so there may be other walkers some further back that I did not notice."

You frowned slightly but nodded in understanding before too long. And soon, your eyes hardened.

"These fragile walking corpses are NOT breaking into our owner's building, am I clear?!" You growled as you channeled your inner drill sergeant.

"Sir, yes, sir!" The Swedish former reservist answered back, being the first one in the lobby to speak and to snap into attention.

Allen was not far behind though, which pleased you, especially as the tall, robust construction worker reached for the fire extinguisher axe they had in reserve narrowed his eyes as he looked outside the doorway, looking ready to fight. You nodded to yourself at his look of determination and readied the sniper rifle in your hands that still had some ammo.

Next, you turned to Emily, who had come to the lobby without a weapon of her own, and then handed her your other rifle that actually HAD run out of bullets in the night before you were finally introduced to your one true master.

"Think you can handle aiming the bayonet at their rotten heads to finish them off?" You asked while suppressing a wince, knowing how bloody and messy using a bayonet up close and personal could be.

The tall and fit blonde swallowed hard for a brief moment but soon nodded, her green-eyed stare resolute. "I won't let you down."

"Good," You said simply. "Then, let's see what you've got, Private Karlsson. "

You turned to Zachary, who was gripping his steel crowbar tightly. "We will be fine, as long as we stick together," You declared, projecting as much confidence as you could in the hopes it would become contagious for the rest of Team 3. "And we will need someone to guard our rear. So, can I count on you to watch our backs?"

The computer science student paled slightly but soon took a couple of deep breaths and nodded. "Sure."

Sufficiently satisfied with his answer, you double checked your noise-diminishing suppressor and then loaded your sniper rifle, feeling the weight and power on your arms. And with that weight came a strong, methodical clarity that banished the lingering insecurities you have been feeling in the back if your head all day, now that you had some life-or-**** work to do.

And so, you allowed your new teammates to look at your fierce smirk.

"There appear to be literal monsters approaching our gates," You remarked as you showed them your teeth. "Let's go kill them!

Your fire-up grin was echoed in their own expressions. And then, they followed you outside, ready for battle.
