A Western Classic

“Bank heist it is. Can’t go wrong with a classic,” Ronnie said to himself as he headed out the door. The sun was hot and the air was dry, but the raccoon didn’t mind. If all went according to plan, he’d leave this place with more money than he knew what to do with.

The sheriff’s office wasn’t very far from where he was staying. Just a short walk and he was right at the front door. It was a plain small building with a sign affixed to the top reading “Sheriffs.” Considering there was only a single sheriff and deputy, they probably didn’t need much space. He knocked twice on the door and waited. It didn’t take long for someone to answer the door.

Her fur was mostly soft brown with a more yellowish tone that started under her snout and continued down the front side of her body. Much to his annoyance, the weasel was a little bit taller than him. He tried to straighten his back to match her height, but she still had him beat by a few inches. She just didn’t have him beat on height either, but in weight as well. Her sizeable and perky breasts were doing their very best to burst out of her too-small drab yellow shirt. Her brown jacket wasn’t quite long enough to reach her waist. Some had thunder thighs, but she was packing a whole storm. Her beige pants were bursting at the seams. They were practically painted on her. Her thighs weren’t just thick, they looked powerful too. Like she could pop a watermelon with a single flex. Of course, her behind more than matched those thighs. It was wide enough that he wouldn’t be able to wrap his arms around them if somehow given the chance. Her arms were well-toned and muscular as well. Being almost a one-woman sheriff department must be good exercise. Her soft brown hair was pulled into a neat braid. An old brown cowboy hat was pulled slightly forward to shield her eyes from the bright sun. She looked down at him with her golden eyes, mildly confused.

"Heya there, pardner," she drawled out in a western thick accent. "I don’t think I’ve seen ya around these parts before. What can I do for ya?"

Ronnie tipped his hat forward. "The name's Ricardo Montague and it's your lucky day. I'm here to apply as a deputy," he said as he flashed her a charming smile.

Texas only looked even more confused. "I, er, are you sure?"

"I've never been so sure about something in my life."

"Well, I'd be lying if I said we couldn't use the help, but, uh, there are a few issues."

"Issues? What kind of issues?"

Texas reaches and pokes him in the chest. "Well, first of all, you're kind of a string bean, pardner. Like one strong wind is all it'll take to send ya packing."

The corner of his lips twitched. "I assure you, I am more than capable of taking care of myself."

“That ain’t all, you know. I gotta do background checks, do a proper interview. Hell, did ya even bring a resume or something?”

Ronnie straightened his jacket and kept his smile up. “From my understating, you only have two people working the sheriff’s department here. Just figured you’d need all the help you can get.”

Texas still looked unconvinced. “You ain’t exactly wrong there, pardner. But you’re still a stranger. And… well, the crooks around these parts can be pretty vicious. It’ll be like throwing ya to the wolves.”

“Just give me a chance. I’m sure you’ll find that I’ll surprise you.”

Texas scratched her chin as she thought. “Hmm, fine. Give me a second. I’ll be right back.”

She slipped back into the office for a few seconds before quickly reappearing with a bronze star badge. “Here. This is a Jr deputy badge. Sorry if it’s a bit dinged up. I can’t remember the last time we’ve given one out.”

Ronnie took the badge and pinned it on his jacket. “Thank you kindly. You won’t regret this.”

“Now, here’s the deal. My deputy, April, is out doing some errands. I don’t like to leave the office empty, but now that you’re here, I won’t hafta. I was right about to go on patrol. Nothing serious. Just a stroll around the town. If you do see anything that can be dangerous, come right back and tell me. We’ll see where we go after that.”

Ronnie nodded. “Well then, time to start my round.”

“Good luck. Remember, come on back if you see anything.”

Ronnie tipped his hat before turning around and began his patrol. All too easy, he thought to himself. He just got his foot in the door. It shouldn’t take him very long to earn her trust. After all, how hard could patrol be?”
