Chapter 26 by Mythen Oakhier Mythen Oakhier

What did he see?

A Vision of Heaven

Looking down his body, he saw Rowena resting against the hospital bed that he was laying on. He tried to smile, but he felt so weak that it was hard to keep his eyes open, let alone smile. She looked so peaceful in that moment that John felt his heart melt a little bit. He ached to touch her, but he couldn’t move his arms.

Looking around the room, he spotted another surprise. Moonstone was slouched provocatively on a chair, her legs spread open as far as the skirt she was wearing would allow. John couldn’t be sure in the dim light of the hospital, but he would have sworn that she wasn’t wearing any panties underneath her skirt.

Rowena shifted a bit before opening her eyes and looked up at John. “You’re finally awake,” she said sounding very excited. She pressed a button to alert the nurses as she took his hand. “You have had us so worried,” she explained as the nurse entered.

Moonstone snorted slightly and shifted in her chair, which caused her skirt to ride up a little bit further along her pale, but well defined, legs. The nurse giggled slightly before she shooed Rowena out of the room so that she could check John over more thoroughly. Rowena reluctantly abandoned her spot and waved to John before she stepped out into the hall.

“Now, how do you feel, Mr. Newman?” the nurse asked in a soft whisper so as not to disturb the sleeping girl in the room with them.

“Weak,” John groaned out softly; the single word seemed to sap what strength he had.

“That is very understandable,” the nurse commented softly as she placed her hand on his wrist to take his pulse; “After all, you have been in a coma for the past three months.”

’Three months?’ John thought panicking slightly.

“You have had quite the number of visitors in that time as well,” the nurse replied while Moonstone snorted in her sleep; “The Brightons have been in several times, as has the Scarlet Witch.” The Nurse pried his eyes open to check his pupils responsiveness.

“What do you mean the Scarlet Witch?” John asked, suddenly panicking about where he was at the moment.

“Oh, don’t worry about her. She wouldn’t dare attack you while you are in the care of the Apothecaries,” the nurse said with a quiet giggle.
John relaxed his weakened, but tensed, muscles. “So what exactly are the Apothecaries?” John asked as he turned his head slowly to study the nurse.

“We are a non-combative group of healers inside the Abyss. We treat everything from normal injuries, like what you seemed to have, to the more exotic maladies that come from people using magic,” the Nurse explained, her fingers doing a little wave like a stage magician might for children, causing John to chuckle.

John waited patiently for the nurse to finish her examinations while he pondered about the last things he remembered. Before he could ask the pretty nurse about the accident and other people involved, he felt something prickle along his skin and saw the nurse turn around suddenly.

John looked away from the popup to mention something to his nurse when he saw that she now was sporting an adorable pair of cat ears and a swishing tail that wound its way back and forth in annoyed movements. Another nurse came running into the room, this one sporting wolf ears and tail, her eyes an icy blue that huskies seemed to have.

“Protect the patient and guests,” the wolf-girl nurse shouted urgently as Rowena came back into the room, dressed for a fight in her full armor.

Rowena went over to Moonstone and knocked her foot to wake the sleeping barbarian up. Moonstone snorted and blinked her eyes open. Upon seeing Rowena in her armor, she quickly whispered a word, and in a flash of light, Moonstone was standing next to Rowena dressed for battle in furs and leathers. John struggled to sit upright, despite his bodies protests, only to be pushed back down by nurse, who looked like she barely had to try to do so.

Growling in frustration, John looked through his meager inventory for something that could help him when he spied the skill book that he never used. John drew the book from his inventory, and the moment it rested in his hand, he got the pop up to learn it.

John thought that he saw the sign of corruption just like before he tore open the barrier at the Fae Hill Barrier but dismissed that thought when the skill looked normal in the window pane. A quick glance at his mana bar confirmed that he had enough mana to cast the spell so that he could back up the ladies that were defending him.

((Thank you to all the people that have continued to follow me. I know this chapter is rather late in coming. Hoping to become more regular in the future. Fingers crossed.))

Is he the Target?
