A Surprise Visit

Amanda was sleepily lazing on the couch with Gus, her head in his lap, her free hand in your blonde wig, petting you like you were a puppy.

Her phone rang. She let it go the first time, but after it repeated, she answered.

"Hello?" she said sleepily. "Oh, hey mom. What's up? What?" You felt her attention get sudden and sharp. "You're here? You'll be here in fifteen minutes? Oh. That's great!" That was a lie you knew.

Though you'd both been raised in Miami, her parents originally haled from the Midwest. And shortly after Amanda graduated high school, her parents had departed back to Minnesota with her younger sister, Karen. They'd tried to convince Amanda to go to college in Minnesota as well, but she loved Miami. And she loved you.

Amanda looked around frantically.

"Dani. You have to hide sweetie. I can't explain what's happened with you in anyway that will be acceptable to them. I love you, sweetie, but you need to hide under the bed in your room for now. I'll get them out as soon as I can."

"Gus ..." Amanda said, looking at the older Black man. What was she going to do? Put him back on the streets? "Go get on that dress shirt I just bought you and some slacks. Just follow my lead."
