A Sinister Hunt pt 2

(WARNING! The Halloween spirit ran through me HARD with this one. Body horror ahead.)

We'd barely landed in the crumbling ruin of a town and started moving out of the Jet. Slowly we looked around for anyone alive, trying to find clues, but we found nothing. It felt unsettling, like we were walking through a massive cemetery in the dead of night or something... People spread out carefully, Kali and Jenny searching everywhere they could. Between the teleporting and Jenny's nose, tracking signs of life shouldn't be a problem, but they weren't finding much.

Titania lead the way towards what she explained was the only entrance she knew of, a little one story home barely big enough for two bedrooms and a little more intact than the other buildings around it. When we finally arrived where the entrance was, Jenny's claws came out. "You sure this is the only way in?" She asked while Titania was moving towards the hidden reinforced door. She lifted her weapon to break it down only to be stopped before Magneto simply bent the double doors inwards until it rolled back against the walls, flat no less. Jenny and Penny were the ones that moved forward, between Penny's metal skin and Jenny's healing factor they should be able to handle any traps easily. Everyone moved forward carefully, searching in different directions of this darkened out facility...

The power didn't seem to be working in all the rooms, there was a lot of damage. It was honestly like something out of a horror movie. "Kinda cliche isn't it? For the bad guy to have his base give off this much horror movie vibes I mean." I heard a growl from Sabretooth for a moment before Magneto glared at him, the Professor reminding me that for Sinister, nothing mattered beyond his experiments. Whether that was cost, ethics, safety, nothing was as important as experimenting and cracking the mutant genome.

"Quite true professor." We heard from a nearby speaker, power coming back on around the facility, lights turning on as a screen lit up with the face of the monster we'd come here to deal with. Sinister. "Nothing matters more than my work. I wasn't expecting you so soon but I must thank you for arriving none the less. You see some of my other experiments have gone out of control, thankfully now YOUR here to deal with it FOR ME! Have fun!" As he said that we heard a loud guttural screech, something was coming towards us, practically sprinting by the sounds of things. What rounded the corner was clearly a failed experiment, some sort of hybrid monstrosity of fused flesh, like something of a cronenberg nightmare. It screeched at our group and charged at us, a melted fleshy arm with razor sharp teeth all along it swinging at Jenny like some sort of flesh whip. She used her claws to slice it in half, the creature screamed, sounding like multiple voices yelling out in pain even as Penny's huge arm swung out and sent it smashing against the wall with an almost wet SMACK, the sound of multiple bones breaking sounding out through the room.

It screeched again and tried to pull itself out of the wall to charge around, a new arm starting to form as the monster seemed to NEED to attack us. Titania's weapon suddenly slammed into it's body, pinning it to the wall and keeping it trapped as it tried to reach out and grab her. It was Sarah's optic blasts that finally put it down, burning and searing the creature until it finally died, slowly melting in a pile of fleshy slag. Titania retrieved her weapon and I was doing my best not to lose the little food I'd eaten before we'd left, Kali rubbing a hand on my back even as Jean moved up alongside me, trying to help calm me. I almost tried to ask if I should use my Red Medic to try and heal them, Jean must have read my thoughts though, she shook her head and explained. "Sinister isn't the type to have left enough of them in there to recover from this kind of transformation..." We heard evil cackling a moment later, Sinister gloating about what he'd done to these people and how they would never return to what they were before.

Titania spoke up then, asking why he'd experimented on her husband to create her armor, when he'd promised to make them both stronger. His response? "But I DID hold up my end, your husband is now more durable than ever! And even better he can empower you now and help you to beat anyone that comes in front of you! Aren't you happy I held true to my word?" The sadistic smile on his face only further reinforced just how malevolent and sinister this monster was. The anger I felt was nothing compared to the rage and pain Titania did, she screamed out and swung her Hammer out, just in time to send a monster flying back down the hall as it was mid leap, trying to catch her off guard. As we looked back down the hall there was dozens more of these monstrosities, some looking like large lumps of flesh with a singular huge blade for an arm, others looking like their lower bodies were replaced with more of a centaur like body, if the legs looked like they were just sharpened bones with no skin on them...

There were so many of them! They charged down the hall screeching at us, at first I thought they were only interested in killing us, but Sabretooth made a mistake, trusted in his healing factor too much... One of them ripped a chunk out of him, the others around it all converging on the chunk, fighting to eat it. Sabretooth healed as they fought over the chunk, it got thrown up into the air where Cyclops incinerated it. They turned and screeched again, charging at Cyclops this time, they were sliced apart by Wolverine and Nightcrawler next, the parts that fell off them still wriggling like they were alive. That's when I noticed one in the back... slowly approaching... As it got closer to the others I saw it looked incredibly malnourished, a quick Appraisal helped me to understand.

Name: Failed Hybrid type A Level: 100 Class: Monster Experiment Damage type: Piercing/Crushing/Slashing with possible variants able to perform elemental or psychic damage.
These creatures are what remains of Sinister's test subjects. They no longer feel anything except an incredibly powerful hunger. They require fresh DNA in order to remain living and as such are almost constantly on the hunt for people, animals, anything that they can consume.
WARNING: Do not allow to consume fresh DNA, can evolve and gain new abilities!

Oh that is 10 pounds of nope in a 5 pound bag. "Don't let them bite or get any flesh off you!" I warned the others fast as I yelled out, meanwhile I sent through the mental connection to the others that these things could evolve and grow stronger if they escaped. The professor wasted no time as he called out "We can't let a single one of them escape! Cyclops, burn ALL of them! We need to leave NOTHING behind." Magneto was quick to nod his head in agreement, calling back Sabretooth before using the nearby metal to help capture and round up the monsters inside metal sphere's. With Magneto's help we were able to catch all of them rather quickly without worry, from there Magneto using his control over metal **** the monsters into a room before making an opening Cyclops could burn them through. Magneto made sure that the creatures wouldn't escape, while Jean used her telekinesis to move the parts that had been cut off into the room as well.

Suddenly we heard Sinister's voice come in over the loudspeaker again, one of the screens nearby lit up with his grinning face just before the monster began to speak. "My my, to see the oh so GREAT Magneto resorting to creating an incineration chamber of all things. What a fun day this is!" Sinister sounded WAY too gleeful about that, Magneto seemed to radiate a furious anger though in response. That's when two things happened we weren't expecting, first we started hearing loud thudding, like something huge was heading for us, the second though? Jean suddenly screamed, grabbing her head in pain as she dropped to her knee's... It was Jenny that reached her first, Sarah busy burning and blasting away the remains of these monstrous experiments.

"Jean? What is it?" Jean shook her head at Jenny's questions, everyone one high alert as they focused on the experiments or Jean. "There's something further in... it's screaming... So loud!" She held her head, The professor in a similar state, along with Betsy now that I saw them. Jean and the professor tried to shield themselves and the rest of us from whatever kind of Psionic attack this was.

With everyone preparing themselves we started heading deeper in, finding another floor below the one we had been on. Before we could head in though there were dozens more of these monsters that charged at us. I used Blue Shield to cover Nightcrawler so she could fight up close, but there were so many charging... My vision slowed to a crawl, I found myself staring at another screen.

CONGRATULATIONS! Blue Shield has reached level 5! Due to the current level lock two advancements of this power will now take place and you will be shown a preview of the powers path of growth.
1st Advancement: Normally available at level 5, Blue Shield can now be used multiple times without fading, allowing you to attach it to several people to aid in their defense! The Blue Shield can also now help protect against Diseases or Virus's.
2nd Advancement: Normally available at level 6, Blue Shield can now BURST in order to damage nearby attackers. Depending on the number of enemies the burst will either focus the damage on a single target or deal less damage to knockback numerous targets at once.
3rd Advancement: Available at level 7...
4th Advancement: Available at level 8...
5th Advancement: Available at level 9...

I had no idea there was a max level to the powers, let alone that they could evolve! This was incredible news though! I'd have to focus on it later, for now I needed to use my Shield on the others as best I could. I immediately covered everyone I could that was at the front, Wolverine, Sabretooth, Nightcrawler, Colossus. From there I went to adding the new Shield to Bishop, Jean, Cyclops, The Professor, Magneto, Betsy and Titania for good measure. I wasn't gonna take any chances.

Bonus Objective available: Level up Green Orb to at LEAST level 5 before the mission's end. Bonus Rewards available for each additional level. Skill EXP for these enemies defeated is MASSIVELY increased. I got started right away, sending my Green Orbs into the experiments, knocking them around, damaging them... I wasn't expecting my ability to hit level 5 as fast as it did though. The notification didn't pop up either, just suddenly the orbs I were throwing had green fire surrounding them! The professor called me back fast, trying to figure out what happened. The screen surprised us both.

We apologize, an annoying rogue element is still trying to glitch the system. Your 1st advancement is called FIREBALL. This can burn, sear, even char your enemies, be warned however as bouncing them off a shield can cause them to explode with much greater **** and damage. This fire effect can be deactivated in order to still beat back enemies with resistance using normal Orbs.

So aside from that first part, the rest sounded like good news. "We can investigate what this rogue element might be later. I'm sorry to ask you this Zane, but can you help burn away Sinister's experiments?" The professor asked, I nodded my head before hearing Jean in my mind explain to me that there isn't anything left of who they used to be in their minds. She sounded sad about their fate, but her anger at Sinister was FAR more easily felt. I got started as best I could, having to tell myself over and over that they weren't alive anymore, that there was no way to save them.

The first few were difficult to burn away, it got a little easier as we went through more of them, but I never stopped hoping there could have been some way to save them. I had thought of making a wish to turn them back to normal, but my powers warned me that the backlash would knock me out for at least the next 36 hours. And in this situation that would only make things harder for the others, putting them at risk. So I went to work, doing my best to keep them back and burn them all away...

How long have we been fighting through them? It feels like it's been going for awhile, it's barely been an hour and only now have the numbers started to really thin. There's been hundreds of these things attacking us, everyone seems exhausted. Even now my Red Medic has created a healing field for everyone to rest in, but it can't recover the fatigue fast enough... One of the creatures got into the healing field as I worried about that, then it just froze...

As it stood there, jaws hanging open all over it's body, we watched it start convulsing, it began to stretch and it's flesh started to bubble? What the fuck?!

We were all caught off guard when it began to MELT just from being in the field... We watched as others ran in, collapsing to the ground and following suit with the first one. The healing field was destroying them? But how? A pop up answered me.

Healing Field of the Red Medic is attempting to restore their DNA, because the experiments cause these creatures to eat DNA they are rapidly eating themselves to **** thanks to the healing field. This is effectively causing their bodies to melt down and allows you to gain considerable Skill Experience due to your healing causing their deaths.

I collapsed to the fucking ground... This day has already been too much, now the system is telling me my HEALING is able to KILL?! I suddenly found myself back in my mind, pulled there not by my defenses but by Jean. She explained how the Professor saw the screen, she tried to help calm me down, helping me to remember that this happened because of Sinister, not me. It took a few minutes for me to calm myself, when I came back out, the field was still up and my eyes opened to see Kali holding me. Everyone else relaxing while they had the time too, except Magneto who used the metal to **** the creatures to enter the circle, before using the metal to basically scoop and push the SLURRY of melted flesh out and away from everyone else. I threw a few fireballs into the slurry, letting them sit there and burn it away slowly.

"Schatz, are you alright?" Kali asked me, I nodded my head in response. "Let's rest for a bit while we can..." I tried to sit back against what had previously been a desk one of these poor people had likely worked at, only for Kali to pull me back into her arms, hugging me from behind. Bishop spoke with Jenny, Sarah and Jean took a moment together, Penny kept watch and Sabretooth sat over by Magneto. We stayed like this, resting for a bit, the creatures throwing themselves at the field, dying again and again... Then I got a new pop up.

CONGRATULATIONS! Red Medic has reached level 5! Advancements unlocked!

1st: Regrowth, Red Medic can now regrow lost limbs, this can help veterans as well as those caught in emergency situations to recover more easily.

Since Red Medic has reached level 5, the area of Healing Field has been increased once again!

We all watched as the healing field stretched out further, it didn't lose any strength or get thin either. The creatures also seemed to be dropping and melting faster now as well. "Zane?" The professor called out to me, I showed him the screen and he used his telepathy to explain to the others, with Magneto though he explained it as my power growing stronger. The waves of creatures were dying down, as they lessened we heard his voice again. "Marvelous work! To think nearly all my failed experiments have been dealt with so quickly! I had though I'd have HOURS more to finish my work, but you seem to be moving through my failures quickly. Very well then... There's only a couple more rooms before you reach my lab, can you make it here in time I wonder?"

Sinister, was taunting us again. I'm struggling to hold back my anger, the others look like their struggling too. Regardless we head for the next room, and when we open it everyone stops in their tracks. What we see inside is a machine that appears to be completely COVERED in this amalgamation of flesh. We hear a screech come from it as a face pushes up and out of the top, along with a massive head. There are tendrils coming out of it, stabbing into the wall so this creature can lift itself up, there's something strange about this thing, it feels dangerous... An Appraisal tells me why.

Name: M.O.D.O.K. Level: 200 Class: Advanced Failed Experiment Damage Type: Energy Projectiles, Crushing, Piercing, Slashing
This is what remains of MODOK, lured here by Sinister's promise of scientific cooperation AIM'S forces and leader have all been used for experiments. All of which have failed. Now this creature desperately tries to find fresh DNA to consume, it's currently in the starving state as fresh DNA ran out days ago. Surviving AIM personnel: 0. All personnel have been consumed.

The shock and horror I saw on the Professors face wasn't something I expected, then again I don't think ANYONE was prepared for this. "Look MODOK! Fresh DNA! Keep them busy now, and if your able to kill them, the doors are open! You can escape! You can consume EVERYTHING!" We heard from the loudspeakers, everyone readying themselves for combat a moment later. I put up Shields on every I could, Activated the Healing Field and started creating as many Green Fireballs as I could. In order to reach Sinister we HAD to get through this monster. Sinister...
