Chapter 4 by Sorenus Sorenus

Who is Aura?

A Retired trainer

(Warning: This chapter is exposition heavy. If you don’t give a fuck about world building and want to get straight to the porn, skip ahead.)

Aura’s alarm clock woke her up only after it had been going off for 20 minutes. She only really woke up when the heat from her Arcanine’s breath became to much to bear.

He did that every morning she slept in-apparently her alarm clock annoyed him, so he took waking her up upon himself when the loud device failed at its job.

After she got up, Aura quickly showered and put on her casual clothes. She had a couple errands to run today before her job started in the evening.

She stopped in front of the mirror one final time before she left her room. Her blond hair was done up in a ponytail, but her normally bright crimson eyes were filled with tiredness. Still, her gorgeous face was unblemished. Nodding to herself, Aura left her room.

Downstairs, she grabbed a quick breakfast-just some cereal and milk, really. She grabbed her Pokeballs off the kitchen counter and attached them to her waist just as Arcanine trotted down the steps himself.

“Ready to go, bud?” She asked. Arcanine rolled his eyes and gave her a quick snort, before walking up to her and pressing his nose against one of her Pokeballs. A beam of red light engulfed the Pokémon, and soon she was alone in the room.

Aura gave a light chuckle as she put on a light coat and opened the door. Immediately, she was hit by the cool breeze of the early March air. Taking a few steps out, Aura closed the door behind her and whistled.

After waiting a few seconds, she heard soft wing beats and turned to see her Butterfree coming out from the woods that surrounded her house. A Machoke followed behind her, creating loud thumps with each footfall. A minute later, a Sandslash and Clefable came from the other direction. After another 3 minutes, she finally heard more loud footsteps and looked up to find her Blastoise making his way over from a nearby River.

“Alright guys, I know it sucks but I’m going into town today. So you need to go back to your Pokeballs. Well, except Butterfree. She’s my guardian today.” Aura heard grumbles and growls from her team, but ignored them as she returned them one-by-one until only Butterfree.

With a sigh, she began her 10 minute walk to the edge of town. As she traveled, her mind wandered to the state of the region, the reason why she even needed a guard in the first place.

It had occurred 4 years ago, when Aura was 17. Team Rocket had been plaguing Kanto for as long as she could remember, but they never had too much success. The league was well organized to stop any threats, terrorists, and criminal groups. After all, the whole country was essentially its own military.

Anybody could own Pokémon, but it was harder to make a career out of it. In order to gain money from Pokémon battles, one had to be a registered part of the Pokémon league. This not only enabled them to challenge gyms and the elite four, but also to bet money participating in official Pokémon battles, and even earn a monthly stipend from the league depending on their number of gym badges. In return, trainers had to respond to the league’s requests should they ever encounter a crisis. In short, official trainers were the league’s on-call police and military. And since many people dreamed of being champion from a young age, and the license application age requisite was only 10 and up, almost everybody had a license at some point. Of course, licenses were taken away from any trainer who hasn’t challenged a gym in 6 months unless they had at least 3 badges. It was the league’s way of ensuring they weren’t calling upon total incompetents when solving an issue. But that still left about 25% of the teenage and adult population on-call.

With all of this manpower, it was more surprising that Team Rocket officially became a genuine threat to the league then it was that the league had held them in check for so long.

Team Rocket finally got their break when their scientists created a new revolutionary type of Pokeball-the human ball, now first made and launched 4 years ago, was capable of catching and enslaving people.

The makers didn’t even try to hide its use-the ball had a white bottom like the regular pokeball, but the top was hot pink and had a black silhouette of a nude busty lady with a choker around her throat attacked to a chain that trailed to the center button of the ball. Aura had learned from the images she saw on the news.

The league immediately attempted to shut down Rocket with the full **** of their top trainers-all of the gym leaders and elite four were launched with a unit of other elite trainers who had obtained all 8 gym badges to stop the threat. Upon arrival at the Team Rocket base, however, Giovanni and 4 others turned and attacked the rest of the team without warning-revealing that they had been undercover rocket agents, or in Giovanni’s case, Team Rocket’s secret leader, the whole time. In the confusion, Agatha of the elite four was killed, alongside gym leader Blair. Additionally, Brock and Erika were both captured, and Bruno was crippled for life. In an instant, the Indigo league of Kanto had lost half their gym leaders and half their elite four.

From there, the region quickly descended into chaos. Rocket was able to claim the powerful Pokémon of the defeated Brock, Erika, Blair, and Agatha for themselves, enhancing their power immeasurably in the short term, as the League’s retreat had left them unable to claim the Pokémon themselves. The news spread fast, and many of the lower-ranked reinforcements the league attempted to call upon abandoned their duties out of fear. Others, meanwhile, joined Team Rocket, led by their greed and lust. Using the panic, Rocket shipped out their human balls to black markets and other small time criminals, leaving the league fighting a war against crime and terrorism on all fronts. Before long, the entire region had devolved into a full-blown civil war that was even going on to this day.

One would’ve that Rocket supply lines wouldn’t have been able to hold out-that there’d be a limit to how many Human balls they could produce. That had been solved when they seized Sylph Co. and their scientists.

Nowadays, Lorelei of the elite four had also went into hiding-not captured, but rendered unable to fight after more than 70% of her Pokémon had died in the fighting. Sabrina and Koga were all that were left of the original gym leaders fighting full on-Misty had went into hiding after Lt. Surge was killed. Aura couldn’t blame her. She was a young girl when the whole thing started, and a prime target of Team Rocket for it. Aura was glad that she had retire before things had started herself. For all she knew, she probably would’ve lost her life in the first attack. She had challenged the elite four in the past after all, and even beat Lorelei. She was unable to make it past Agatha though.

Thankfully, upon retirement, Aura was thorough enough to turn her license back in so she wouldn’t have to be called upon. She didn’t need the monthly stipend anyways. The small fortune she had made from her victories was enough that she could live the rest of her days living a quiet life here in Maroon Village working evenings as a bartender.

As she finished her musings, Aura shook her head and looked around, only to realize with a shock that she was in town already, and approaching her first destination at that.

Where’s Aura’s first destination?
