Chapter 83 by JohnLocke4 JohnLocke4

What Happens From Here?

A Promise Kept

A day came and went, and for the first time in a while, it felt nearly like a normal one for Kenny. After patching things up with Juliet, things fell right back into place for the two, he was able to talk with his cousin, joke with her, and even spend some time together all without it feeling so damn awkward. It seemed that even Juliet was taking what they agreed upon to heart, finally choosing to knock off all her teasing that she'd regularly treat Kenny too, at least once a day. By the end of the day, Kenny even made his way down to Club 36, picking up an old routine with Ellie that of course came with her promised special after-hours sessions in her office.

The next morning, however, Kenny woke to the notification light on his phone steadily blinking, and upon looking all he found was a near cryptic text from Quinn simply reading,

  • Today

Kenny rubbed his tired eyes and sat up in bed, "Is the day I die? Way to be vague, Quinn," He murmured out in a chuckle as he started to text a reply.

  • Is Tuesday? What does that mean?

Even with her message sent over an hour prior, Kenny barely had hit the send button before he found Quinn already typing a reply.

  • It's today, Kenny! I know it's a little late, but it's finally able to happen!

Kenny raised his brow.

  • Remind me what it is, again? Because I'm absolutely lost right now.
  • Ugh, you're such an idiot sometimes, I swear. My parents already left with Will for BMU to move him in but since I am going with Juliet this weekend, that means I'm home alone. Meaning...
  • Oh shit, right, your bedroom.
  • Duh! Fuck yes, my bedroom! It's all I've been thinking about since the second Juliet texted me. You and me fucking all day and all night right in my house, no fear of getting caught. God, it's going to be amazing.

Kenny felt his lips curl into a grin, taking a few moments to remember that day on the trail where Quinn made that promise to him. How risky and exciting it felt then was only a fraction of how it felt knowing it was happening now.

  • You sure it's gonna be safe? Because as much as I want to, I don't think the last thing I want to see is you screaming as your dad or Will comes after me with a baseball bat.
  • Shut up! God, you're ruining the mood! Of course, it's safe you idiot, I wouldn't suggest it otherwise. They are hours away, unloading Will's stuff will take them another few hours, and my parents are taking him out to dinner after. More than likely they said they'll get a hotel in Dartwin, so we're fine. Don't try to weasel your way out of this!
  • I'm not, I'm not! I'm just being cautious. I still really want to do this!
  • Good, because it's happening today. Take a shower, grab an overnight bag, get in your car and go to my house. I should be back from my run by then and then we can get this started. ;)
  • Yes, ma'am, I'll get it done

With that last text, Kenny got out of bed, a grin resting on his face. Part of him never really thought Quinn would be able to work something like this out, it felt like a sure pipe dream, but once again she proved him wrong. Once again it looked like this fiery redhead was destined to prove that she could always get what she wanted, one way or another.

Over the course of the next hour, Kenny jumped into the shower, and cleaned himself up, taking a few extra minutes in front of the mirror to make sure he was presentable. He found it a little funny, he had made times for hookups before, but this one almost felt more like a date. Sure they were going to have sex but Kenny was certain that Quinn would have something more in mind. Movies, food, maybe going out later? They would have the whole night and after their carnival date, Quinn really like to show off to the world that she had someone, even though she knew the whole world couldn't know.

As Kenny returned to his bedroom, grabbed a knapsack, and started filling it with a change of clothes and a few other sundries, Juliet lightly tapped on his doorway and peek in, "Hey, what's up?"

Kenny glanced back and he felt his stomach ever so slightly twist with nerves, "Oh, uh, nothing much...going out tonight,"

"Oh, cool, you're...staying out? All night?" Juliet added, eyeing her cousin's bag for a few moments,

"Yeah, I'm seeing...Brian for a bit, and we might drink or something, so I'm gonna hunker down at his place," Kenny lied and thankfully Juliet immediately rolled her eyes and scoffed,

"High school is over you know, you don't need to hang out with him anymore," She muttered back, nearly sounding disappointed,

"Heh, hey, you're the one who doesn't like him. I think Brian's fine," Kenny simply rebuffed with a shrug, "So yeah, don't wait up."

"You sure you'll be out all night?" Juliet leaned against the wall and crossed her arms,

Kenny nervously swallowed and looked back once more, "I mean I might come back, but I doubt it. We're doing stuff that'll take us late into the night, so even if I did it wouldn't be until the damn near morning I bet."

"Hmm...okay, but shoot me a text if you end up free and are coming home. That way we can hang out!" Juliet finished with a bright small,

"You got it," Kenny gave the brunette a thumbs up and Juliet left his room allowing him a deep sigh of relief, "Thank God. I can't keep lying to her, it's gonna kill me or get me killed." He muttered under his breath as he tied his bag shut and slung it over his shoulder.

Using the opening he had now to get out of the house before Juliet asked him about his plans anymore, Kenny headed out and got into his car. It took only another twenty minutes of driving before Kenny was pulling alongside the curb just before Quinn's house. He got out and gave a cautious look around, "No cars...no brother or father coming to kill me...looking good so far." Kenny took out his phone and quickly texted Quinn.

  • Just pulled up, you home?

After only a few seconds Quinn replied.

  • Not just yet, be there soon. I left the door unlocked, let yourself in so no one sees you!

Kenny grabbed his bag from the backseat and slung it over his shoulder again, locked the door of his car, and headed up the road. He crossed over the lawn, and although it felt a little odd, let himself inside. He breathed out an awkward breath and shut the door behind him, "Okay...totally not strange...I was technically invited in..."

"Kenny?" The teen froze, "What the hell are you doing here?" He swallowed hard and slowly looked over to his right, looking into the living room.

Who Is There?
