A Miraculous Solution
"Tikki," Marinette whispered, her voice trembling, "where did all my stuff go?" She dropped to her knees, frantically sweeping her hands across the sand as if her clothes might have somehow sunken beneath the surface. Her fingers only met cool sand. Nothing else.
"I-I don't know," Tikki replied, hovering anxiously above her, tiny face creased with worry. "They were here just a moment ago!"
Marinette's breathing quickened as she continued her **** search. Finding nothing, she curled into herself, drawing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them in a fetal position on the sand.
Marinette's breath came in short gasps as she searched every corner of the tiny tent. Nothing. No bag. No clothes. Nothing. The reality of her situation crashed down on her like a wave, and she curled into herself on the sand, drawing her knees tightly to her chest, arms wrapped around them as if they could shield her from what was happening.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no," she whispered, rocking slightly.
A terrible chill ran through her body as Chloe's words echoed in her mind. "She's around." "You'll be seeing a lot today." It all made horrible sense now. While she'd been frozen in place, listening to Adrien and the others, Sabrina must have been crawling under the tent, stealing her belongings right from under her nose.
"Chloe," Marinette whispered, her voice quivering with realization. "This is all Chloe's doing."
The tent suddenly felt like it was closing in around her. Marinette's mind raced wildly, conjuring horrific scenarios that unfolded like a nightmare slideshow. She could see it all so vividly. Being **** to leave the tent with nothing to cover herself, walking out onto the beach as everyone turned to stare. Her classmates' faces would morph from shock to amusement. "Just another Marinette moment," someone would shout, and everyone would laugh. And then, and then Adrien would look at her, his kind eyes filled with concern, until someone asked if this was the new swimsuit she wanted to show off. Then he eyes would harden, fill with disgust instead. He’d think she was some kind of floozy, who exposed herself to everyone to try to get attention. He’d tell her he didn’t want to be her friend anymore, never wanted to see her again, he’d seen more than enough of her for a lifetime.
Her breathing quickened as the nightmare scenario expanded. She'd have to flee, running naked across Paris, every step exposing her to more gawking strangers. Phones would be raised, videos taken, her humiliation immortalized online forever. People would post the videos, and they’d go viral. Quickly, a news van would spot her, “Breaking news: local baker’s daughter streaks across Paris!”, and broadcast her shame in real time to every television in the city. And when she finally made it home, she’d be greeted by her parents, who were there waiting for her, disappointment etched into their faces as their nude daughter became the laughingstock of Paris. “This isn’t how we raised you,” they’d say. “How could you do this to us?” By evening, everyone in Paris would know what she looked like naked. Instead of being known for its pastries, her parent’s bakery will be known for their daughter, the streaking floozy.
"Marinette! MARINETTE!" Tikki's voice finally broke through her spiral. The kwami was frantically waving her tiny arms in front of Marinette's face. "You need to calm down. We'll figure this out, I promise."
Marinette swallowed hard, but nodded, trying to slow her racing heart.
A tense silence filled the tent for a long moment before Tikki spoke up. "Um, Marinette," she began delicately, "remember how you were worried about the tent fluttering and showing your ankles?"
"Yes?" Marinette replied, not understanding where this was going.
Tikki floated silently for a moment, looking uncomfortable. "Then... you really shouldn't be sitting like that." Her voice was quiet.
Marinette stared blankly at her kwami. "What?"
"Well, in your current position..." Tikki gestured downward, wincing slightly. "Anyone looking at the gap under the tent right now is seeing... a lot more than just your ankles."
Marinette stared blankly, not yet fully comprehending.
Tikki sighed. "Your, um, your 'kitty' is on full display to anyone who happens to look under the tent right now."
It took exactly three seconds for the meaning to register. Marinette's eyes widened in horror as she bolted upright, nearly toppling herself over, her hands instinctively covering herself again. Her heart hammered in her chest. "Oh my god, Tikki! Why didn't you tell me sooner? Do you think—" her voice dropped to a terrified whisper, "—do you think someone already saw? What if they took pictures? What if... what if Adrien came back and looked? If he peeked under and saw my…" The thought was making her head spin.
"Focus, Marinette!" Tikki insisted. “Now’s not the time for that. We need to do something about this… Maybe I could go look around and try to find you something to cover with?”
"No!" Marinette shook her head vigorously. "Someone might see you. And I don’t want to be left here alone like this.”
"Then transform into Ladybug," Tikki suggested. "You could use your speed to get home quickly."
Marinette bit her lip. "But what if someone saw me enter the tent and then Ladybug come out? My identity would be exposed." She sighed. "And my friends are expecting me to come back. They'll think I just ditched them."
Tikki frowned, thinking hard. "What about using Lucky Charm to create something to wear?"
"That might work, but..." Marinette hesitated, "Lucky Charm gives me what I need to solve a problem, not necessarily what I want. What if it gives me something completely useless for this situation?"
"It's worth a try," Tikki encouraged.
Marinette nodded slowly. It was her best option. "Tikki, spots on!"
The familiar rush of magic enveloped her, and suddenly she stood as Ladybug in the barren tent. Without wasting a moment, she whispered, "Lucky Charm!"
A flash of red and black materialized above her, dropping into her hands, a towel.
"Not exactly what I was hoping for," she murmured. She would’ve preferred a swimsuit or a set of clothes. "It'll have to do. Spots off."
As the transformation faded, Marinette quickly wrapped the towel around her body, tucking it securely above her chest. It was just large enough to cover her from chest to mid-thigh.
"Okay," she said, taking a deep breath. "I need to get out of here before someone gets suspicious about how long I've been in this tent."
"What's your plan?" Tikki asked, settling on her shoulder.
"First, I need to find Chloe and get my stuff back. And then I’ll get dressed and join the others.”
With trembling fingers, she reached for the velcro flap. She took a deep breath, trying to project confidence she didn't feel. She peeled back the flap just enough to peek outside.
The coast seemed clear. No Chloe lying in wait, no crowd gathered to witness her humiliation. Just the normal bustle of the beach in the distance. Marinette let out the breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding.
"I'm going to kill Chloe," she muttered before she stepped out cautiously into the sunlight, the polka-dotted towel her only shield against complete humiliation.
With each step, Marinette clutched the towel tighter around her body. The sensation of being outside, essentially naked save for the thin layer of fabric, made her skin prickle with vulnerability.
“Maybe I should find Alya first,” Marinette whispered to Tikki, who had hidden in her hair. “She could help me deal with Chloe.”
Taking a deep breath, Marinette began walking toward their spot on the beach, her steps small and careful to prevent the towel from slipping. Each footfall in the sand felt like walking a tightrope over a pit of embarrassment.
