Zoe has never thought of a kiss as a way to show gratitude. Especially one on the lips for a friend. Kisses on the lips should be reserved for boyfriends, she's always thought. And a kiss is all a boyfriend is entitled to until the wedding night when he becomes a husband instead.

She chews at her lip and looks at Claire. To her, Claire's always been a really pretty girl. Tall, blonde, and freckled. Most guys would kill to kiss her. Or to watch Zoe kiss her. So Zoe can't help but feel a little funny as she leans in and steps on her tiptoes to quickly peck Claire on the lips, kissing her long enough to taste her strawberry lip balm.

Claire steps back. "What the fuck, Zoe? I only kiss girls when I'm drunk, and last I checked there's no beer in the church. So don't go all lesbo on me just cause you're feeling horny."

"Sorry! I was just saying thank you. Can you come with me to see what's going on in there?" Zoe fiddles with her dress, her nerves getting the better of her.

"Hell no. I'm not getting spotted by Mrs. Bellamy if she really is banging Lucas. She knows my mom and would find ways to make my life suck." Claire gives her a nudge toward the ladies' room door. "You're on your own."

"Take a peek inside and take a photo with your phone, to add to your collection," the voice said.

Zoe eases her way inside. On hearing the Lord command her to take another pic, she fishes her phone out of her purse and holds it up in front of her. She snaps the pic the second she's inside, before she's even had a chance to see for herself what all the commotion is.

What she captures on her phone is Lucas stumbling backward out of the stall, still exposed as he clutches himself. Parts of the pic are a blur from motion, but it looks like a woman's shoe is in midair and on its way to hitting Lucas below the belt.

"Stride in. You must know if your mother is indulging in sin," the voice said.

Zoe steels herself for whatever she might see in the ladies' room and lets the door close behind her. Already she's reassured by the pic. At least she knows she won't be seeing Lucas with her mom. Even the mental image of him having his way with her mom has Zoe gagging in disgust.

"Out, out! Shame on you for touching yourself in the ladies' room!" Zoe hears her mom from inside the stall Lucas just stumbled out of. "I'll do worse than kick you if you don't get out!" Her mom then mutters, "Lord, please bless both me and my bladder with some patience today."

Whatever courage Zoe managed to work up evaporates. Suddenly Claire's idea of not being seen by a mom on the war path seems like a sensible one. Zoe ducks back out of the ladies' room. Claire is nowhere to be seen, and Zoe thinks bolting for anywhere other than here sounds like another sensible idea.

Before she can take even a step down the hallway, the ladies' room door opens behind her. Lucas hobbles out, holding himself with both hands. He sees Zoe and says in a hurried whisper, "Your mom is crazy, Z. Can you look to be sure she didn't uh break my dick?" He glances to the door behind him. "Not here. She'll be out eventually. Step into the men's room with me? It'll be empty."
