Chapter 11 by Stormdragon19 Stormdragon19

How do things go once they arrive at the monastery?

A Job offer?

Byleth had looked over the monastery on their approach as she walked with heirs to the continents 3 great powers - it looked a lot like a fortress on the outside. High outer walls, multiple gates on approach, a well defended position. She couldn't help but feel the gaze of the purple haired merc following them in the group. She might have been part of a rival mercenary group the Jeralt mercenaries had tangled with before, but it didn't really stick out that much to him. She was pretty though.

Upon arriving, Jeralt had drawn his attention to Lady Rhea, the archbishop of the Church of Seiros, as she watched them from a high balcony. While it was a distance, he could tell she was quite pretty. His dad, however, was not as happy to be back here. It seemed he had some issues with the head of the 'ridiculously large organization', as he'd put it.

Afterwards, the two of them had met the Archbishop herself along with her advisor, Seteth. Byleth's new interest in sex had him staring that the archbishop the entire time - she was exceptionally curvy, something her flowing white robes failed to truly hide. He'd almost missed her asking his name. Still, they were asked to stay the night. Upon meeting with his dad that morning, Byleth found his mood had not improved.

"I can't believe it. **** back into the Knights of Seiros." Jeralt sighed dispassionately, before turning to look at him. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this. Looks like I'll be stuck here for quite a while... and I'm afraid your services are requested as well."

'I must... work here?' He pondered before completing the question out loud. "As a mercenary?"

His father shook his head. "Nothing like that. They want you to teach, by the sounds of it. You heard those brats earlier talking about the Officers Academy, right? Well, turns out they're short a professor this year. And apparently that damn Alois went and recommended you to Lady Rhea."

"So, you must be the new Professor. My, how stern and handsome you are!" A female voice called out as two figures walked forward. A monocled man with a gray moustache and a brunette woman with a white cape and green leotard that offered a view of a LOT of cleavage.

"Er, no. I'm not the one you're looking for. You can handle things from here, good luck." Ah, she seemed to have mistaken Jeralt for him. He turned to leave before whispering to him. "And... watch out for Lady Rhea. I don't know what she's thinking, making you a professor like this. She may be up to something. Stay on your guard."

The woman spoke up as he left. "Oh. It's you, then? So young..." The scholarly man was quick to comment. "Competence and age are not necessarily correlated, as you well know. I am Hanneman, a Crest scholar and professor at the Officers Academy. I wonder if you bear a Crest of your own. When next you have a moment to spare, I insist that you pay me a visit so we can delve into the subject further."

"I'm Manuela. I'm a professor, a physician, a songstress, and available. It's nice to meet you." The brunette introduced herself afterwards, the 'available' said with a seductive lilt to her voice. Looking the instructor over, Byleth could only come up with one response - "You're a physician?"

"I look too pretty for that line of work, do I? But yes, when I'm not teaching, I can be found in the infirmary. If you're ever lonely, please do come and pay me a visit. I would love to–" She seemed to have taken it as a compliment rather than the slight skepticism it was intended to be, but Hanneman cut her off.

"Spare our colleague the needless chatter, Manuela. Now then, it seems you'll be taking charge of one of the academy's three houses. I expect you haven't yet been briefed on the nature of each, have you?" He asked, getting down to business.

Manuela seemed surprised to hear that fact. "Do you really not know? Fine, I'll do you a favor and explain. The Officers Academy is comprised of three houses of students, each of which is closely affiliated with its region of origin. The Black Eagle House is for students from the Adrestian Empire. Their house leader this year is Edelgard, the Imperial princess, who is in line to be the next emperor."

"The Blue Lion House is for students from the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Their house leader this year is Prince Dimitri. He is to be the next king of Faerghus." Hanneman continued.

"Lastly, there is the Golden Deer House, which is for students of the Leicester Alliance. Their house leader is Claude, grandson to Duke Riegan, the leader of the Alliance." Manuela finished the summary.

Hanneman looked thoughtful as he reflected on the circumstances. "To think that the next emperor, king and sovereign duke are all here. It certainly is a promising year for the academy." Manuela sighed in response "I'll say. I just hope none of those little treasures cause any trouble."

"Hm, quite. For now, I suggest taking a stroll around the academy to get your bearings. And when you've a moment, please stop by my research laboratory." Hanneman nodded in response. Manuela turned back to Byleth. "The old man has a point. Oh, and keep in mind that I've only notified the house leaders that you're our new professor. It's more fun that way. I suggest you try spending time with the students. Some odd ducks in that bunch, but they're good kids. I'm sure Lady Rhea will have more information for you tomorrow, but that should get you going. Good luck. You'll need it."

Well, it looked like he'd need to take a look around the academy and figure that out. Though, if half the students were as attractive as those he'd already met, he didn't think he'd mind his new job.

Where does he look first, and who does he meet?
