A Daycare

Lauren read the sign on the building: Ms. Sunshine's Pumpkin Patch.

A daycare. She was actually being led into a daycare! And worse, she had been mistaken for someone who actually attended it!

The woman opened the front door and dragged her into the lobby. At the front desk was another woman with a name tag that read, Sherry.

“Hey, Sherry!” the woman called out to the receptionist. “We got an escapee.”

Sherry looked up from her book to see Lauren. She looked the little woman up and down before turning to the woman.

“Um, Jackie,” Sherry began, “I don’t think she attends this daycare.”

Lauren paled. Had they figured out that she was an adult?

“Of course, she could be a new student.” Sherry pointed out. “Some parents are just to lazy to drop their children off the right way. And if you ask me, they should be locked up for doing that!”

Lauren’s face went red as she pouted. On the one hand, of course they hadn’t figured out she was an adult. On the other hand, of course they hadn’t figured out she was an adult.

“What’s her name?” Sherry asked.

“Your guess is good as mine.” Jackie shrugged. She then knelt down to look Lauren in the eyes. “What’s your name, sweetie? Where are your parents? What happened to your clothes?”

Lauren was at a crossroads. She could tell them the truth and hopefully they would help her get back home. They could even give her something to wear and get her out of this diaper! On the other hand, they probably wouldn’t even believe her if she did tell them the truth. Heck, she experienced everything that happened today, and not even she believed that it happened!

The only other option she could think of was to make something up, get out of this diaper and into new clothes, and then make a break for it when the workers weren’t looking. But that meant that she’d have to pretend to be a child until she could find an opening, and that would only add more humiliation to her day.

What should she choose?
