A Change in Perspective

Mary wanted to please her Queen and was going to ensure that everyone at work would receive the gift. So, she made her way down to the lab, where they were manufacturing the pills. As she walked through the hallways, she noticed everyone she passed ogling her. Why had she been so against this gift last night? She'd never felt better, and soon everyone else would too.

She entered the lab and walked up to the head technician, Norman, who was looking over the production line. She tapped him on the shoulder, and he turned around, his eyes going wide when he saw her.

'Hey Norman.' Mary said cheerfully. He blinked, clearly in a state of shock looking at her.

'Hey, Mary. Wow. Is that what this stuff does?' He asked, pointing his thumb over his shoulder at the production line.

'Yes, like it?' Mary asked, smiling broadly as she stroked one hand along her face. He opened his mouth to respond, blinking as he thought.

'Yeah, you look amazing. Wouldn't mind having some of it myself.'

'Funny you say that, that's why I'm here actually, I was hoping to grab a few bottles, because as part of the new campaign for this miracle ****, Janice wants everyone who works in the company to have it.'

'Oh, well, okay. Follow me.' Norman stated, before turning, and opening a side door. Mary stepped through it into a hallway, windows on one side allowed a view of the production lines, Norman closed the door behind them and walked in front of her, leading her along it.

'Also, I was wondering, when will the sale of them start?'

'Well, I don't know for sure, but we’ve been sending them out pretty quick, so it could be as soon as tomorrow in some places, depending on how they want to roll them out.' Norman explained, as they came to a set of stairs and descended them. He opened another door at the bottom, and they came out in the loading docks, where a few workers were already boxing up pallets of the bottles, 'Hold up.' The workers stopped and looked up at the two, their eyes bulging slightly seeing Mary. Mary followed Norman as they approached the box, and he hefted one layer out of it; a row of tightly packed bottles in carboard holders, there must’ve been at least 50 bottles in it.

'This enough for you?' He asked jokingly. Even with it being more than enough, she figured she might as well take the entire thing, to give them plenty of spares in case. But, there was a lot there and she wasn't sure if she could hold it herself.

'Yes, that will be plenty, do you mind carrying it to reception?' Mary asked. He turned to one of the two workers, who she thought was called Lucas.

'Here, take this up to reception for her.' Norman stated, handing it to him. He then turned and nodded at the other worker, who went back to packing, 'Thank you.' Norman then led Mary and Lucas back up into the main hallway. They then walked back to reception, where Lucas placed the pallet on her desk.

'Is that all?' He asked helpfully. Mary grabbed one of the bottles and took off the cap, revealing the silver seal underneath, which she peeled off with a 'pop.' She then turned to him and held it out.

'Take one. It's part of a new marketing strategy.' Mary stated with a friendly smile. He looked down at the pills, clearly unsure, 'Don't worry, it's perfectly safe. I've taken it, which is why I look so hot.'

'You sure?' He asked. Mary pulled one of the yellow pills and held it out to him. He took it hesitantly.

'Yes, now go on, have it.' Mary encouraged, putting down the bottle and grabbing a cup of water on her desk, offering it to him. He half smiled, clearly unsure about the whole thing, before chucking the pill in his mouth and swallowing a mouthful of water. He handed the cup back.

'There you go, is that all? I'd really like to get back to work.'

'Yes, thank you.' Mary smiled. He turned and walked off. She opened her computer and went to a list of names of everyone who had signed in today, she found Lucas – she was right – and ticked him off.

Throughout the rest of the day, she offered a pill to anyone that passed reception, ensuring that they would take it, before ticking their names off on the list. By the time she clocked out, everyone on the list had been given a pill. Perfect.
