A Chain?

All that laid within that box was a chain. A lousy chain with the wooden stake it was attached to. Not the most thoughtful gift, Peach didn't even know what she would use it for. It didn't even have a collar. But the chain was..., actually pretty smooth and shiny for a chain, and the fact it was in a shade of pink was a nice touch. Still, it seemed like such a silly prank but whoever sent it was smart enough not to slip in a card or note or anything they could use to find out who sent it.

"What a strange gift." Peach mused as she picked the chain up before letting of it with a small yelp. It had shocked her when she picked it up but after that first jolt it seemed to have discharged itself.

The princess called on her Toads for help, which they did though they were worried about being around such an odd item. Mario was off to another adventure and Luigi was gone as well so it would fall to them. The shock did repeat itself on some toads but not all of them when they tried to move it and it wasn't a repeated event. As in the same toad grabbing it again and again didn't get zapped all the time.

"Could it just be Static?" Peach pondered aloud as she tapped a finger to her check.

" Are you sure this is a good thing to do Princess?" Toadsworth, her advisor warned, "Such a strange gift was sure to be a trap." the older toad went on with a shake of his cane.

"I don't see the harm in keeping an empty chain in the castle Toadworth." Peach turned to face him, with a smile. He worried over the smallest thing.

"I'm worried about what was supposed to be attached to the chain myself Princess." Toadworth answered back, adjusting his glasses, "I'll not go against you but I want this on record that this is a bad idea."

"You think adding honey to tea is a bad idea. I'll go do some research about it over lunch. Toads, could you put the item back into my chambers for now?" Peach asked as she walked away. The toads nodded and went about their duties as Toadworth moved after the ruler.

"Princess, you're to meet with the mountain expedition leader, and hear from the Pianta commitee about their bid on the coast line, and the upkeep of the go kart tracks..., and the royal decree..." Toadworth continued on.

"Oooooooooooh boy...," Peach said, wiping away pretend sweat from her brow, "Seems I'm not getting off my own leash any time soon."

Toadworth shook his head as he continued to list off her duties needed to be done that day. Peach nodded with a sigh as the two made their way to throne room and meeting rooms.

Unknown to them, and the Toads moving the box, the chain began to glow softly. And just for a second, Peach got a weird itch.
