8. Dex

You spend the next couple of days regaining your strength and learning more about your new companion. He tells you he goes by the nickname, Dex, and that he’s been here for sometime now. He was a researcher before the apocalypse and had been stationed out in this cabin for couple of years to study the forests ecological system. He heard the same radio broadcast as you and immediately headed to the nearest town to try to find any survivors.

When he arrived he found nothing but utter destruction. The next town beyond that would be another 60 mile drive and without any gas station to refuel his truck he returned to the cabin. He never thought he’d see another person until he heard you calling out before the bear attack. His cabin was already equipped with hunting rifles since bears and wolves were common in this area. He tells you though he’s sorry you got caught in the crossfire it was a Godsend that the bear attacked since food had become more scarce lately.

You have to admit that his bear stew was much better than the things you had been cooking up in the forest. You spent the first day in bed while Dex carved a makeshift crutch for you to get around with. You’re happy to be able to get around more independently but miss leaning up against Dex’s muscular frame when you needed to get up. His fingers would curl around your waist protectively when he didn’t just pick you up and carry you around.

The sexual tension between you was painfully obvious. You wish that he would address it as you’ve always been too shy to take charge. Instead you let it linger in the air and just enjoy the moments when Dex brushes up against you or grabs your arm to steady you if you lose balance. The nights, however, are the worst. The first night Dex made himself a makeshift bed on the floor. The next morning when he helped you up and your bare feet touched the freezing wood floor you insisted he share the bed with you. He tried to refuse at first, not very convincingly, but you insisted that you couldn’t risk him getting sick while you’re to weak to get around on your own.
