Chapter 2 by Beast79 Beast79

Who is our Protagonist? How many years since the Outbreak?

5 years later, Riley Finn

"Professor Walsh?" Riley asked when his knock was not answered.

He waited three minutes and knocked again, this time he projected his voice. "Professor Walsh?"

A minute later came Maggie Walsh's voice, "Enter."

Riley entered her office and proffered the secured case he was carrying. "This arrived for you."

Professor Walsh cocked an eyebrow and gestured to her desk in front of her. Riley set it down and stepped back. Professor Walsh gave him a small knowing smile, "Curious?"

He smiled back, "A bit."

"You can remain. But you will never speak of this to anyone." Walsh gave Riley a pointed look.

"Ma'am." Riley nodded his head and stood ready.

Entering her clearance code on the touch pad Walsh soon had the security case open. Professor Walsh immediately pulled out the paperwork, giving the metal canister ensconced in safety foam a brief look. Opening the paperwork Walsh began to skim the document for relevant information.

"Project: Pink?" She uttered as she read.

"The military does have its quirks with naming conventions." Riley observed humorously, "Or did you ask for the designation Project: Lilac?"

"I did not." Walsh answered distractedly as she read more of the file. She stopped, backtracked and reread. "Interesting."

"Ma'am?" Riley asked after a minute of Walsh just staring at the paperwork.

Maggie Walsh shook her head in seeming surprise then turned her head to look back at the case, "A gaseous chemical agent that allows for biological mass shifting into a preselected form."

Riley parsed the scientific speak in his own mind and bobbed his head with amazement. "Shapeshifting gas."

"Hmmm." Walsh turned her attention back to the file. "Draw backs include unaccounted for biological changes, psychosis and diminished mental capabilities. Wildly contagious. Person to person infection possible via both bodily fluids and touch."

"Too good to be true." Riley clicked his tongue.

"It is hoped that we can.... refine the provided sample and develope a better version." Walsh shut the file and put it on her desk beside the security case.

"Not exactly the Initiative's main focus." Riley observed.

Walsh chuffed, "Given all that our backers have done for us so far? When our backers say jump, we jump."
