H’Rull’s appears to attract a slightly more homogenous group of people than live in the Citadel. There are a couple of dwarves, but they likely dropped by from next door, and there are some mild cross-species of a few more exotic creatures, but the majority appear to be humans and elves. The chap you think is probably the owner, from his mannerisms and posture, is an elf himself. You walk over to the counter behind which he stands, occasionally helping with orders, mostly just surveying the front room from atop his high shoulders. He spots you long before you arrive, and bows to you politely. You return the gesture. After exchanging pleasantries, he asks whether you would like anything to drink or eat. You decline and get into the reason you are here. You tell him the basic outline of your origins, that you are physically fit, that you need employment, and that you’re willing to do almost any job for him under the sun in exchange for lodgings or the time to find proper paying work. He looks really disheartened to tell you that he can’t help you, as although he usually observes the custom regarding apprenticeships, all his rooms are booked, and he doesn’t need any extra staff. You ask him for advice instead. He mentions an organisation called the Peace Keepers’ Guild, who deal with all the work that goes into keeping the streets and the buildings safe. They do odd jobs all over town all the time, and are always seeking new hands. You can find their head quarters at the foot of the Watchtower on the north side.
You thank the elf, and return to the street. He really looked crestfallen to see you leave. Perhaps he has a soft spot for apes.
Two inns remain for you to investigate:
• To try The Imp’s, turn to 107.
• To go into The Big Bight, turn to 306.
If you wish to seek out the Peace Keepers’ Guild headquarters immediately, turn to 38.
