(Gossip) - Ask Tallula to tell you more about Dee Langley

You were awfully curious about the other detective people kept mentioning. Hoping you might find a cliche servant-girl taste for gossip, you pulled out a pad and pen, then asked Tallula if she could give you her impression of Dee Langley. It would be good to know what you were getting into before you met the woman in person, especially since you might be a suspect in her eyes.

Tallula pressed a finger to her lip thoughtfully, staring at the rattling, bear-engraved handles of the study door with apparent distraction. "Ms. Langley? She's rather interesting. Very stoic. We also don't have any other black folk on the island. Well, apart from that other guest..."

"... Black folk?"

"A-Ah, pardon, I hope that wasn't impolite! But no, everyone who ordinarily works here is er... very white... apart from Ms. Croft, who is half-Japanese," she stammered, looking from side to side awkwardly as though afraid she was going to need to apologize Dee in person.

You chuckled in apology and told her that you were less concerned with Langley's looks and more with what she was doing here. It didn't sound like Langley had been brought here coincidentally as anyone else's guest. Why, then, had a detective ended up here on the island?

"Well... You didn't hear it from me, but Ms. Langley and the Crofts are old rivals! There was a case some time back. Dee was convinced that the late Ms. Croft Sr. helped someone 'disappear' after committing the theft of a great artifact, perhaps to put it into Ms. Croft's personal collection. Of course, that's all a crock of horse-piddle, it is! I've never seen the item anywhere in the manor, even here on the third floor where nobody goes! Ms. Langley, though, she was a hound with a bone, she was, never gave up the chase. I think it's a matter of pride for her. And the new Ms. Croft, when she sees frayed pride, she pulls at the thread, y'know? Aye, she invited Ms. Langley here just to taunt her, I think! Probably got Ms. Langley awful pissed!"

It seemed like the maid's tone changed completely when she was gossiping. She was finally starting to sound less frightened... actually a little giddy. She'd given you some valuable information just now... it sounded like Dee Langley had an axe to grind with the hostess.

"Oh... Oh don't tell Ms. Langley I said any of that. Like I said... she seems awfully proud. I-I don't want her to think I'm trying to push any of her buttons."

You smiled at Tallula and pantomimed zipping your lips shut. This was the kind of gossip that could have come from anywhere, after all.

"Very kind of you, Mr. Wolf," Tallula sighed with relief, then fixed her cap upon her head. "Well... If that is all, please, allow me to tend to Ms. Croft. I'd like to ask you to head downstairs and leave me to it. I-If that's alright with you?"

You agreed, placing your pad back into your coat and hurrying downstairs. Maybe, before the day was out, you'd even meet this famous Dee Langley.
