Ah. Right. Forgot to ask. Who are you exactly?

Alexandra O'Malice. To her friends - although currently the number of those approached zero - Alex. Who just turned twenty two, was sitting in a lounge chair left by the previous tenants and smoking a cigarette.

You definitely could not be a model. With a face that was best described as "handsome", no one would hire you. It was framed by a neat haircut and a strong jawline. You did turn heads still, but mostly of other women. Let's just say you were quite popular in your all-girls school. Small birthmark on your forehead you didn't mind that much, but you still hid it under stylish hats most of the time. The looks allowed you to have a confidence of a woman who knew exactly what she wanted. Your eyes cold and stoic didn't betray your thoughts. You were doing quite well at the poker table thanks to them. If you were allowed to play.

Dressed in your best - and only - suit you looked quite elegant. You had a good style and taste even though you couldn't really afford many things that matched it. Even the tweed suit you were currently wearing was a result of an affair with an older widower who needed you dressed sharp to wear you on his arm. Your chest strained the buttons of the white blouse you wore underneath the navy-gray jacket. A slim waist and hips gave you a bit of a top-heavy look, but you didn't mind much. A well-fitted skirt reached right below your knees which pushed social norms but was generally acceptable.

Still, all of that didn't really help your situation that much. You were chased out of your hometown by a jealous wife and the reason why you were wearing your best suit was simply that you had no suitcase and no time to pack! It was safest for it to be worn when you boarded the bus heading east. With the rest of your possessions in a black trash bag that you watched like a hawk until you got here.

Once more you looked around the room and cringed. It was lucky that you had a friend who had a friend so you could have this place with no up-front payment and no deposit. No upfront payment and no deposit didn't mean no payment though. You had a week to come up with the first month's rent or the next stop was a gutter.

Ok. You are a bad detective. But what _kind_ of a bad detective?
