Chapter 4 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

Which Type Of Divine Treasure Would You Like To Know More About?

[Race Creation Items]

There are five main types of item which go into creating races under this system:

Soul Form Cores/Bases, Soul Form Components/Parts, Echo Crystals, Soul Essences, and the "Reagents" used to create Soul Essences.

I will now give a very brief outline of what each is and does:

Soul Form Cores/Bases: These two terms "Soul Form Cores"/"Soul Form Bases" are used interchangeably. A Soul Form Base is a basic template for a species: for example, the template Lucifer and company gain of the Goblin Snake had everything in it they would have needed to create Goblin Snakes from the Pathfinder in terms of organs, bones, muscles etc: all they needed to do was add Soul Essences.

Soul Form Components/Soul Form Parts: again, the two terms are interchangeable. These items are 'spare parts' which can advance/enhance basic Soul Form Cores with new abilities and powers.*
*(Going back to the same example, Soul Form Components for two pairs of arms were added to the Base Goblin Snake...)

Echo Crystals: An unmodified Soul Form Base will create a race of 1000 individuals when filled with Soul Essences and 'Cooked'. For every part added to or subtracted from that base template, the number of individuals it creates is halved, to a minimum of 1. The way to counteract this is 'Echo Crystals'. Echo Crystals do not count when being added, only removed. Each Echo Crystal is a regular prism and multiplies the number of beings created by its number of sides. You Also can 'chain' Echo Crystals by matching those with similar shapes on one of their facets and attaching them to each other. For creating a strong race that can survive the early conflicts of the world you will need to use LOTS of Echo Crystals.

Soul Essences: Soul Essences can be thought of as the 'Batter' with which you fill the 'decorative pan' of the Soul Form to create your race. The analogy is imperfect but it will suffice. No matter what you fill the Soul Form with the race created will LOOK the same, but looks are deceiving. The Soul Form which created the elves could as easily have been filled with 'Breeding' essences instead of 'Longevity' essences, while the inverse could have been true for goblins. In that world, it would be the small, shy, retiring goblins that were the long-lived architects of the fate of the world, while the elves were the short-lived savages eaking out an existence in the margins of other's lands.

All Soul Forms are larger on the inside than the outside, and most can hold about 7 Soul Essences.† Some, especially 'Deus Coffins':* can hold more, but the typical Soul Form Core holds seven.† Each Soul Form Part you add to the base form gives room for one more essence. You are essentially trading quantity for quality.‡ However, not all soul essences are created equal. Those used in the creation of the Elves※ in a traditional fantasy world, are much more stringent in their tolerances than normal, but also are much more potent.
*(More on that in the entry about Soul Form Bases, bellow.)
†(Coincidentally, the minimum number you need to properly catalyze a new race...)
‡(Echo crystals do not change the holding capacity one way or another...)
※(The various recipes for 'elves' are well known and available cheap in most major dimensional crossroads. Those of many other common races, such as 'orcs' 'trolls' and 'goblinoids' are as well.)

Reagents: If Soul Essences are the batter, Reagents are the flour, milk, eggs, and sugar. Some deities can sense the ways to combine various special ingredients into Soul Essences, and every good pantheon would do well to have a few such.
Some Examples of Reagents include; Demon Blood, Auroch Horn, Mastodon Ivory, Kraken Ink, Glow Moss, Sunlight on the Summer Solstice, Moonlight on Lamas Night, An Eagle's Feathers, The Shadow of a Hanged Man, Ruby Dust, Gold Foil, Ash from a Temple's Fire, and The Blood Of A Vergin.
As with the Soul Essences, they create the Reagents used are not always the same quality. In general, the fresher a Reagent is the better a Soul Essence it will produce. So, to make Top Quality Soul Essences you need Reagents harvested at the peak of ripeness and used immediately. Each Soul Essence will have at least five components: 1 for each of the standard five senses. Some have additional components for other senses, but five is mostly the minimum number, and using ones with less can damage the resulting creature's ability to use any missing sense...
