The rise of the Anglians

The Humans were once known as the Anglo's, or the Anglians to the rest of the civilized world - during the human races infancy, they were renown for their territoriality, hegemony and warmongering. They would find any casus belli and instantly declare war, for no other reason than to expand their borders and enrich their resources. Humans and Orcs were long known rivals for the title of most brutish and war-loving, while most other races kept out of their way, they weren't exactly immune to the greedy or jealous gaze of either the Humans or the Orcs.

It was through the Humans greed and their warrior ancestors that they managed to attain such vast lands, split in the middle by the Orcs. The Left wing is called Western Anglia, and the right wing is called Eastern Anglia, they were once connected by the longest road in the country, known as the golden road for all of the luxuries and riches that travel up and down the country on it, but the Orcs many raids and blockades on the road along with erecting their walls and cities there caused this road to become disconnected and unusable.

Many wars were fought in trying to take back this land, but due to the regions strategical geometry and the defensibly of the established city, all battles lead to human loss and the plight to renew the road was eventually abandoned. It would be another 500 years until the humans were able to trade between east and west Anglia effectively again, and this came with the invention of boats used to transport both goods and information across the seas. With the use of boats, the humans were finally able to bring the human tribes of the many various islands into their fold - this unity and the profits that came with it caused the human race to enter a golden age of wealth and prosperity.

The Black Defeat

While the humans warred with the Orcs over the golden road, they also warred with the Dwarves over the small amounts of land they owned. They saw their small territory and stature of Dwarven people as a weakness that could easily be exploited and so they declared war against the dwarves, expecting an easy victory they sent their full forces in at once with little to no tactics, to storm the gates with ladders and infiltrate the dwarves, **** them to swear fealty to the humans and act as a puppet state for the humans profit.

With the human invaders grouped up beneath the city walls, ladders stacked and being climbed - the Dwarves put their plan into play, atop all the ladders currently being climbed a black oil was poured down, sending many invaders falling to their deaths, the oil was described my many soldiers as 'pitch' as the oils color was "pitch black". The oil pooled at the soldiers feet, the fools still unaware of their demise attempted to re-climb the now sticky ladders until a single arrow flew through the air, alight with a fire it landed and the entire field went up in flames - the screams of men burning alive and the awful smell of human flesh cooking, melting into the iron suits they wore to battle. The event was called The Black Defeat due to the charred human remains of the soldiers who knew not about the properties of oil. Ever since that day, the humans have never dared attack the Dwarven people, and the region was now synonymous with this battles name and so was born the Black land, ruled by the Dwarfs.

King Darius

The famous King Darius grew to power over a coup of the old ruling lineage the Aeries family, who had grown lazy with their decrees and stances over trading - the Aeries had stopped all trading with the outside world and had reduced the country to a hermit nation - with the thinning of merchants pockets and the inflated pricing of choice items and foods, the countries unrest grew and grew, any black market dealings with the contraband items from trade were dealt with **** severity, often leading to public lashings and even executions of up to three generations in a criminals family - the peoples complaints fell on deaf ears. This dictatorship naturally didn't last long, Aeries the IX, the current ruling king of Anglia was assassinated at a public event by his personal guard, paid off and pardoned of their crimes by the master of coin, Darius who had planned with head merchants and aristocracy to overthrow the royalty and place himself as the new king. King Aeries IX and his entire male line were culled throughout the rest of the week leading up to Darius's coronation as the new King of Anglia.
