This story takes part in Poland and at the time "Dziadek Mróz" and "Śnieżynka" ( Ded Mroz and Snow Maiden ) were already being pushed out culturally by Americanized versions of Saint Nicolas archetypes - especially since after years of socialism everything that was "western" was considered better.

So Julka's peers might have not believed her when she told them "Santa" brought her presents since he was blue and not red (ironically). But it looks like she had cool friends as a kid!

In Polish tradition good kids would get presents on the eve of 6th of December (Mikołajki) or - if they were naughty - they would get a stick (a switch). A stick that their parents should use to beat their ass with of course - yes with a stick.

By the way when Beata refers to Jan as a very sexy grandpa it's because in the lore Śnieżynka is grand-daughter of Dziadek Mróz.

Finally meme (as a word & concept) was invented in 1976, so almost half a century ago. Who would have thought?
