BACKGROUND

• Hometown: The main town of the 6th House District. (I would prefer to leave this vague in the story, though it is inspired by Connecticut.)

• Family: Only child of an lower upper class family. Father (d.) was a manager of a machine shop and his mother is a retired bank vice president.

• High School: John was social awkward during high school. A straight C student, his major interest was Dungeon and Dragons and comics. His father him to join the basketball team, where he was a second stringer, though the team won the state championship.

• College: Grew up a great deal during two years at a Connecticut community college. Transferred to UConn and graduated with a BA in history and political science with honors. MAR from Yale in Religious Studies. Ph.D. in history (focusing on politics) from St Louis University.

• Work: Has been working as an assistant Professor at a local community college for a year. Teaches political science, history and occasionally religion.

• Politics: John's family has been active in Democratic politics for years. A committed old school liberal he has been tapped by the DNC as a possible rising star in state politics.

• Languages: Speaks some French, a little Japanese, and has reading ability in Latin and ancient Greek.

• Family: From a large lower middle class family of several brothers and sisters. Sam's father, whom she was always close with, was a frequent out of work mechanic.

• College: BA in political science & MBA from Harvard. Basketball scholarship & guard for the Lady Crimson. President of the Young Republicans.

• Work: First year of college worked as a waitress at Hooters, then as a waitress at a high end bar and finally as a bartender. Right out of college employed by large financial firm in the state capitol as a political lobbyist. Had several notable successes and was quickly promoted.

• Politics: Tapped by the Republican Party as one of their possible future political stars. Recently “retired” for finance job and moved into John's district to run for Congress.

• Languages: Spanish, Catalan.

• Religion: Lapsed Episcopalian.

• Sam is very outgoing, vivacious, strong willed and liberal in personality. Generally friendly and easy going, she has a savage wit, and has wrestled with a temper all her life. Moral, and true to her word, she does have a mischievous streak.

• High School: Normal for a pretty girl, dated a few guys, nothing serious.

• Undergad: After two brief relationships, Sam had her first, and until John, only serious relationship, with a female exotic dancer, who was a strong feminist. The relationship broke up right before grad school when Sam found out that she got into and prostitution. Sam has hid this relationship from everyone, especially the her Republican handlers.

• Grad School: Only a few causal dates, too busy for anything serious.

• Work: Since leaving college Sam has had a terrible love life. Frustrated by dating egocentric corporate types. Which partially explains her attraction to “John” and her nickname for him: “Hometown.”

• Fetishes: Sam has always had a major kink for darers, wagers and gambling. Since her run in with the law in high school Sam has also had a private bad girl/chase/capture fantasies. • Richard ‘Dick’ Ingersoll = Democratic Party official. A party man how loves the political game, he is more concerned about securing power for the Democrats than any particular agenda, even if it means playing hardball and going into the gutter.
