“Vote for the Hometown Team!”

“Here we go.” You say out loud as you hammer the campaign sign into your front yard.
This is your first campaign of what hopefully will be a promising political career. After graduating a year ago with a doctorate in political science you were hired at the community college in your hometown. With your rich aunt's help you bought a nice three bedroom cape on a circular road in a rural part of town.
A month ago you were approached by Democrat officials to run for the 6th Congressional seat. The party thinks you have potential; being young, well spoken, politically knowledgeable and a former member of the local high school's basketball state championship team. You chuckle to yourself remembering how the Democratic Party State Chairwoman called you “photogenic” and “ruggedly handsome,” something that was never said about you back in high school.
“Fortune favors the foolish.” You joke as you give the sign one last whack with the hammer.
“Excuse me?” A voice startles you from behind.
“Oh, sorry, I was just talking to myself.” You turn around to greet your unknown visitor. “These campaign signs . . .”
What you now see before you causes you to stop in mid sentence.
