Chapter 16 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

*What Do You Enconter In The Tall Grass?*

*A Weak 'Kanto' Rattata...*

You wander around the tall grass looking for a Pokémon to battle and maybe capture, but have no luck for five or ten minutes, before suddenly coming upon a Rattata. The Rattata is pretty wimpy, only the size of a normal rat, when you scan the creature with your Pokédex a huge amount of data comes up, and you skim it quickly...

Rattata, the Rat Pokémon.

Known for it's fecundity and adaptable nature Rattata are found in almost every area of the world.

A Rattata's sharp incisors grow continually its entire life, and must be worn down by gnawing on substances like bone, stone, or hardwoods. If these teeth are not regularly worn away a little bit they eventually lock up the Rattata's jaws and it starves to death. For this reason responsible trainers will periodically file their Rattata's teeth.

Rattata are a base link in many food chains. Seen by other Pokémon as prey they tend to be skittish and easily frightened, but become vicious and dangerous if cornered. Constantly on alert they move their ears continually searching for danger, even while sleeping. They also frequently live and forage in packs or swarms, of between 4 and 20 individuals.

Rattata's primary mode of attack is biting with its sharp incisors. Beware of this attack, as it can cut through metal in some cases. Young Rattata do not know this move, instead tackling as do most younger Pokémon. As they mature Rattata learn many speed/agility based moves.

The Rattata/Raticate species is known for becoming a dangerous invasive creature in many areas. Giving birth to up to 8 babies at a time and reaching physiological maturity in around two years the Rattata/Raticate species can quickly overwhelm an areas' eco-system unless there are native species which can act as predators, or human intervention lends a hand with the ecological crisis.

Rattata are also quite adaptable. With upwards of thirty generations occurring in the typical human lifetime, they adapt rapidly to different environments. Imense variety is seen in this species throughout the world, such as the Alolan sub-type which is 'dark' type in addition to 'normal'...

Specific Rattata data:
Size: 0.15m (Far below average.)
Mass: 0.45kilos (Far below average.)
Preliminary Analysis: This is most likely a Juvenile Rattata. Capturing it could yield a stronger than average fighting Pokémon when it is matured, but if it is already an adult it would be quite weak and not worth the Pokéball.

You skim all of this information and make a decision about what to do with this puny Rattata...

*Fight, Capture, Flee, Or Something Else?*
