(meanwhile) Synth ashore

Chapter 177 by Mrservus Mrservus

A small, unassuming vessel slipped into a quieter stretch of the archipelago well away from the main harbour.

The larger ships that had brought half of Teyvat’s most notable women still sat at anchor in patient formation, their flags limp in the late-morning breeze. Ineffa disembarked alone. Mechanical joints flexed with near-silent precision as she stepped onto the pale sand, the expensive letter from Nefer’s agency long since committed to memory. A storm had added days to the crossing. She had no confirmation that her target remained on the island at all. She had come anyway.

The resort’s entry pavilion accepted her payment without comment. A polished attendant handed over a slim guest token and a map she did not need. Ineffa’s optics tracked the grounds with methodical sweeps as she moved inland.

Barely dressed women occupied every open space.

Some wore the same string-and-scrap swimwear that had become the island’s unofficial uniform. Others had abandoned even that and simply walked the paths and lounged on the sand in nothing at all. Laughter carried from the brewery terrace. A cluster of familiar faces from four different nations shared drinks near the main pool, few bodies still marked by the last days of use — faint bruises, the loose, satisfied posture of women who had been thoroughly occupied and were now enjoying the mandatory gap between blocks. A few glanced at the new arrival with polite curiosity and then returned to their conversations. None of them recognized the mechanical woman, and she gave them no reason to.

Ineffa catalogued faces, postures, the easy way they occupied the resort as if it belonged to them.

She did not yet know she was already looking at the outer edge of the very harem her target had spent months assembling. The women enjoying their Aether-free hours — waiting out their windows, recovering, gossiping, idly touching one another in the shade — were the same ones whose names and titles had filled Nefer’s report. To Ineffa they were simply data points on a crowded island, possible leads or possible obstacles, while she continued toward the interior in search of the man who might still be here.

Ineffa found the bungalow by following the densest cluster of traffic.

Four women were already climbing the steps when she arrived — Mualani bouncing on her toes with open, sun-bright eagerness, Xilonen, Citlali and Zibai moving with the quiet certainty of someone who knew the next hours belonged to them. They pushed the door wide and disappeared inside as a single eager wave.

The outgoing shift met them in the doorway.

Yelan came first, hair still damp, posture loose in the way of a woman who had been thoroughly used and was not pretending otherwise. Shenhe followed a step behind, expression once again unreadable except for the faint flush that had not yet faded. Cloud Retainer brought up the rear with Yun Jin slung over her back like a discarded costume — the performer completely passed out, cheek pressed to the adeptus’s shoulder, stockings crooked, the last traces of her stage composure long gone. The three who could still walk looked wrung out in the specific, satisfied way that needed no explanation.

It looked exactly like a shift change.

Ineffa stepped into their path before they could scatter toward the paths and pools.

“I am looking for a man named Aether,”
she said, voice even and mechanical-clear.
“Reports place him on this island. If you know whether he is still here, and where he can be found, I would prefer the shortest route.”

Yelan’s eyes flicked over the newcomer once — joints, optics, the expensive token still in her hand — and settled into the same assessing calm she used on anyone who appeared at the edge of the pride.

“He’s here,”
she said.
“You’re standing outside the building he’s in.”
She tipped her chin toward the bungalow the four women had just entered.
“That doesn’t mean you get to meet him. Next open audience is days out. You can wait with us or you can wander the island asking the same question until someone less patient sends you in circles.”

Shenhe said nothing. Cloud Retainer adjusted Yun Jin’s dead weight with a small, tired huff. Yelan was already turning toward the shade, as if the conversation had concluded the moment the facts were delivered.

Ineffa looked from the closed bungalow door to the exhausted outgoing group and filed the information without argument. The target was present. Access was not. The storm had cost her days; the island’s schedule was going to cost her more. She fell into step with the leaving women anyway, a quiet mechanical figure among Aether’s own, still unaware how completely she had already walked into the middle of his harem.

She followed Yelan’s group toward the shade near the pools, optics cataloguing the same loose cluster of barely dressed and fully undressed women she had already walked past on the way in. Standing among them in travel clothes would have made her a data point of the wrong kind — the one clothed figure in a place that had clearly decided clothing was optional at best.

Joints flexed, fasteners released, and the last of her outer layer came away until the mechanical woman stood as bare as anyone else on the path. The synthetic work was excellent. Full, realistic breasts sat with natural weight, skin-tone plating indistinguishable from flesh at a glance. Between her thighs the constructed cunt was equally convincing — soft folds, a visible slit, the same unashamed presentation every other woman on the island seemed to treat as ordinary. No extra heat rose in her face. Shame was not a subroutine she ran.

A few of the resting pride glanced over, registered the new body the same way they registered any other arrival, and went back to drinks and idle talk.

Ineffa sat with them as if she had always belonged to the shade, synthetic body on display for no reason more complicated than matching the local dress code, and began the slower work of listening. These women knew the man she had crossed a storm to find. Mingling was simply the most efficient way to wait.
