Chapter 64 by Zingiber Zingiber

What's next?

"You have to tell Jillian."

Vincent hesitates.

"Third?" you ask.

Vincent's eyes dart to June, then to you.

"You have to tell Jillian," your husband says.

Your shoulders tighten.

"If this is real, if this is true, she needs to know," Vincent says.

"Would you...?" you say to Vincent.

"It has to be you," Vincent says. "I could never explain. But I could never hide it from our daughter. So you have to tell her."

You feel dizzy.

"You're right, Vincent," you say. "I might...it might take a few days till I know what I need to say."

Vincent squeezes your hand. "Take the time to get it right. Then tell her," he says.

"Yes," you tell Vincent.

June sighs. You feel her settle in her chair, releasing some of the tension she was holding.

"I love you, Gloria," Vincent says. "I love you even if you need women as lovers. Let's do this right, together."

Your eyes blur. You blink.

"Ms. Bates, are you crying?" June asks.

Something runs down your cheek. The other cheek.

"Why, yes," you say. You shake your head. You open your hands and raise them to wipe your cheeks. But more tears come.

Vincent and June wrap their arms around you and hold you as you cry silently. When the waterworks stop, you kiss Vincent, then June.

You sit there together at the kitchen table, the three of you. The dryer alarm buzzes to announce that June's clothes are dry.

What's your next move?
