"Who are you?"

"It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what I just asked you. Now answer the question."

She speaks slowly, as if knowing the world waits for her.

Perhaps she is right. She is the only thing in this world besides you and the fog. Now that you think about it, the fog does not seem to move between you. It billows at a distance around you both, giving way to her, and in that given space there is only the two of you.

And her paddle.

You glance at it. It looks hard. Firm. Sturdy. It and her hands gripping it are as steady as the rest of her.

You look back at her. Her expression has not changed. The thought of arguing or questioning quickly leaves you. What would be the point? This woman expects only one thing, and she is waiting for you to give it.

It would hurt if... Perhaps best not to think about it.
