What's next?
"What's going on?"
Emma frowned as she sighed in exasperation. She reached out with her mind to calm any panicked students and perhaps sense the source of the disruption. Most of her students were cheering, relishing in the chaos. This was in stark contrast to the heightened arousal that Emma sensed in others as she made her way down the hall. However, her attention was drawn to a familiar disturbance, hauntingly familiar, just beyond her perception.
Emma pushed aside the unusual level of arousal on campus, focusing on the mysterious presence nearby. As she reached out with her mind, a sharp, piercing pain invaded her psyche, penetrating her psychic defenses. Her head snapped back, her knees buckling under the mental assault. Only an equally powerful telepath could have breached her defenses so easily, and she recognized the mental signature—it could only be Jean Grey.
Groaning, Emma reached for her head, her knees buckling as she struggled to recover. She reached out to Jean, seeking an explanation for the unprovoked attack. But instead of a response, another blast of kinetic energy slammed into her, throwing her body back down the hall. She crashed against her desk and collapsed to the ground, her office providing no refuge from the assault.
"If that's the way you want to play, Jean... back at you, bitch." Emma sneered, lashing out with a psychic blast of her own in Jean's direction.
Unfortunately, Emma didn't have any time to concentrate or focus her mind. A moment later, her battered body was hoisted into the air and slammed back against the wall, pinning Emma spread-eagle up against it.
The silhouette of Jean Grey, framed in the moonlight, filled the doorway. Emma groaned in pain, her body battered, but her eyes narrowed with determination. It was definitely Jean, but her mind felt different... focused and determined.
"Dammit, Jean... What are you doing?" Emma demanded, her voice laced with confusion and anger.
