Chapter 7

What's In The News Today?
"State Wind Power Initiative Benefits Budroe"
One of the smaller Headlines catches your eye, "State Wind Power Initiative Benefits Budroe", so you read the blurb.
"Governor Bengal's 'State Wind Power Initiative' could net a major boost to the Budroe economy." The Article begins.
"Recent detailed surveys of the state's wind patterns have identified Wachenahuntic Hill on the edge of Budroe as a potential prime site for Governor Bengal's 'State Wind Power Initiative'. The survey drones, which have been launched to do daily sweeps of every municipality in the state for the past year to identify the areas with the most reliable wind patterns for power harvesting, have determined that Wachenahuntic Hill would be a perfect site for the installation of between three and seven Wind-Power-Turbines. Five other sites in Budroe and the surrounding area have been determined to be suitable for at least one more wind turbine and a likely site for a hydro-electric catchment plant has also been identified. Jobs staffing these plants would be first offered to qualified local residents under the Governor's Plan by targeted leafleting campaigns, only being advertised outside the immediate region after a period of several weeks. While our reporters are unaware of any qualified applicants in Budroe at the present time for the technical positions that would be required, several former residents/relatives of current residents who might be considered for these skilled positions have been identified and their names and numbers can be obtained by their relatives through use of various websites. However, the benefits to Budroe's economy from the presence of the turbines and catchment plant go far beyond direct employment!
"While any staffer at this paper can tell you that so-called 'trickle-down' economics utterly fails at the national level: in a local economy, it is quite effective! Increased employment, even in small amounts, leads to more spending at local businesses, which in turn increases employment, which attracts new residents, who spend their money at local businesses, and so forth. What is good for 'Business' is not necessarily good for the economy, because that mostly consists of outsourcing and automation that cuts jobs, but what is good for small business is, as this universally involves increased employment and entrepreneurship. High paying jobs coming to an area is typically good for small business, so these wind plants would benefit Budroe."
