Chapter 12 by Gatsha Gatsha

What is the answer?

"One plus two." (Pink Trigger)

One plus two, I told them. This didn't seem like a safe answer, for some reason... I swallowed in a dry throat. Looking in the blue eyes of those demons, which somehow didn't seem to catch light except when they wanted them to, I felt **** drawing close.

"For one to love two is no miracle," Furfur told me with a dangerous smile, putting a hand to his/her red locks.

"For one to love two is unbelievable!" Zepar added, putting a hand to a mirrored spot in his/her own hair. The two flipped their hair in unison. The paused for dramatic effect before bellowing:

"But for one to love four tens... that's terrible!"

They laughed along with the audience. If they were going to kill me, I'd sure like to know why. As if reading my mind, they laughed again. I don't say "continued laughing," because there was a distinct pause where they stopped the previous laugh and started a new one.

"Mister Player... I don't believe one can love two," Furfur declared, bunching up his/her shoulders while looking at Zepar conspiratorially. "What say you, Zepar?"

"Furfur... I believe it depends on how many ones one is," Zepar countered, giving Furfur the same look. "Mister Player, you are but one! How can you maximize your one and turn your one into two?"

"Maybe he'll be stuck on the decimal, Zepar!"

"One point endless nine, Furfur!"

Those two were close to me now. I had no clue what they were going on about. Was this one of those riddles where I won my life and tons of gold if I got it right? I'd never been able to figure out that epitaph, either.

The two suddenly seemed to be frowning for the first time since I'd seen them. "Mister Player, your one-hundred and twenty become one-hundred ten," Zepar warned me.

"Mister Player, your one-hundred ten become one-hundred," Furfur teased me.

"One hundred isn't always a perfect score!!" the two shouted out, to applause.

My head and heart were pounding. What? What was I being told to do?! I could feel in my bones that when they ran out of patience for this particular puzzle, I was a goner.

What can I do?
