What's next?
"Light" flirting
I caught Eden gawking. "Jeeeeeeez, you weren't lying," she gasped. Then she looked guilty. "Not like I thought you were, though. You know what I mean."
I smirked back at her. This was more my domain. I felt as much like a rapper as a pale ginger bitch could. Yeah, I got a bad bitch in my phone. And last night she was giving me dome... pretend that rhymed. The sight of the pretty face was almost enough to make me forget what a shitshow today had been.
I ignored Eden's gloating look and scampered off toward a better source of light. "You're such a nerd," she sighed.
Eden was ghosting around the apartment–it was hers, after all–after me. Or, really, I was wandering, nose deep in my phone. Practically kicking my heels together like a school kid. Insufferable. Don't hold it against me. A girl can only be so cool. Sometimes she has to be cringe. I would've died if I had to wait a long time for Rania's response, but I was lucky enough that it didn't come to that.
The real question wasn't about last night. It was this morning, if we were being exact; the hours after midnight but before dawn. It felt like we were both taking careful stabs in that direction. Like when you're not sure if another person really likes you, or if you're just seeing what you want to? Rania's opinion of me didn't matter much in the long run, but the giddy feeling in the pit of my stomach suggested I was happy to be in her favor. Was it possible she didn't have a clear picture of last night either? Then we'd be right back where we started.
What I needed was a way to take this out of the oh-so-easily-misinterpreted world of texting and calling and into a domain where I could be sure of what I was seeing. Besides, they could fake a voice call with AI these days, couldn't they?
No, I don't think I was making excuses to get face to face with this woman at all. Why do you ask?
Eden was sneaking up behind me again. She could sense that I was on the verge of a breakthrough, whether or not it had anything to do with what we'd set out to find when we got together today. I hoped she was right.
I locked eyes with Eden. No. No, I didn't think there was.
