Chapter 4 by 0anon0 0anon0

Do you want to go with Ferran?

Go with Ferran.

You look again at the dragon. You're itching to have a go flying on such a beautiful creature, and this seems like the best chance you're going to get.

"Ok", you reply. "I'll go. Please tell Ferran that I gratefully accept his offer."

Rom looks at you solemnly for a moment, then repeats your words to Ferran in their common language. Ferran nods, then walks back to the dragon. Seeing its master approach, the flying reptile stretches its wings and legs, then crouches to let Ferran mount. Meanwhile, Rom steps closer to you. You notice that he looks grim.

"Be careful", he says as he walks you slowly to where Ferran and the dragon are waiting. "You can't trust everyone you meet."

As Rom gives you a leg up onto the dragon's back, you ponder his warning. Was Rom talking about Ferran, about The Great Luminary, or about someone else entirely? It sounded like there was some plot afoot. You decide that you don't want to get involved with any intrigue; that was why you had left Earth, after all.

You settle yourself in the saddle behind Ferran, and grip the handhold in front of you. Ferran looks around, and, seeing that you're in place, lets out a piercing whistle. Immediately, you feel the dragon's muscles bunch underneath you, and it springs into the air.

The sensation of flying on a dragon is similar to being on an old fashioned boat, you decide some time later. With each beat of the dragon's wings, you rise up, only to fall again. In your opinion, dragon flight is comfortable and fast.

After an hour, Ferran points ahead of you. In the distance, you can see a huge pyramid. At first you conclude that it's similar to the pyramids they you find back on Earth; some sort of huge tomb for a king with a big ego. As you approach it, though, you realise that the pyramid is actually a city. You guess the it started as a small village, and grew upwards as the population grew. You marvel at the structure.

When the dragon is only a few hundred metres away, you see that at the summit of the city stands a gleaming white palace, far larger than anything you've seen before. In the middle of the palace rises a tower, with a mirrored dome that sends shards of light through the air. This is probably the palace of The Great Luminary.

The dragon circles around the city a few times, before landing in a specially designed hangar for dragons. Ferran jumps down to tend to his dragon, while an assistant helps you down. You stand while a dozen assistants buzz around the dragon, helping Ferran tend to it. You look around, hoping to see someone who can tell you where you need to go. You peer around the dragon, and see a procession approaching. They look like the same type of people you had to work for on Earth; dressed in fancy clothes, with their heads held high as if the world owes them something, they can only be high up in the government of this city.

What do you do?
