How do you respond?
"I understand, Mommy"
Rebecca's mother looks at you for a moment, but then seems satisified and smiles, showing her dimples again. You decide that you don't like it when she is stern with you.
"Good boy," she says.
"This is Rebeccah's old room before she graduated to having a big girl room. Isn't that right, Rebeccah?"
Rebecca looks a little embarassed and says "Yes, Mommy."
"Why is there a diaper changing table?" you ask. "And why is it so big?"
Rebecca and her mother glance at each other. Rebecca looks even more embarassed, but her mother's smile grows even wider.
"Oh, Sweet Boy," she says, taking your suitcase and unzipping it on the bed. "Mommy likes to be ready in case of an emergency. Who knows when a wetter will need a diaper change?"
"You have friends or family who come over with babies or toddlers?" you ask.
Rebeccah's mother smiles warmly, and says, "Mommy likes to be prepared."
She starts moving your clothes into the drawers of the dresser.
"Mommy, I can do that." You say.
"Oh, nonsense! I don't mind a bit," she says. It goes quickly-You don't have many clothes, and as she finishes, she looks at you quizzically.
"Sweet Boy, where are your under pants and pajamas?"
