"I Have to Know"

"I have to know!"

Dave chuckled at Penny's request. "Not much more to tell. I finished my job and should have gone home. That's agent SOP. But instead..."

"Instead he totally went against orders and off the reservation!" Harley said with glee butting in again and Dave let her. She loved telling the story. "My baby went rogue! All for little ole me! He beat-up the ass I was with and he even forgave me fur shootin' him! After he healed up he setup this whole elaborate complicated scheme to show me Jokers true colors. My baby pulled one ovah on the Joker and the Bat! Made 'em look like complete maroons. Then professed his love fur me! He didn't care that I was certifiably nutso! Said it was just part of my charm and he loved me for me!"

"Whoa!" Said Raven. "Hold up! How did you beat Joker and Batman?"

Dave chuckled. "Trade sceret. Well I can say that it wasn't easy. Batman is kind of a pain that way. I had to play them off each other and exploit their antagonist-Protagonist relationship."

Harley nodded. "And he used that to show me how bad I was fooling myself about him." She frowned. "The thing Joker truly loves most is hating Batman. Not Harley Quinn. So messed up." She sighed. "I was so stupid. Blindly in love with someone who couldn't return my love the same way... and then here comes this guy who does and shows me that love. Risks his life and career for me! Pisses off not just the whole world to be with me but gives a whole nudder world that he's from the middle finger too!" She smiled huggimg Dave. "So romantic!"

"Oh~kay..." Raven said pointing and twirling her finger at her head indicating that she thought she was crazy.

"I think it is a very sweet story," Penny said smiling.

"Agreed," said Willow surprising the others and she shrugged. "Her prince was not only willing to fight for her but willing to throw everything away to be with her. If that isn't romantic I don't know what is."

"But didn't you get into serious trouble for that?" Lifts-Her-Tail asked. "This one thinks that RealDreams must have been angry."

"Oh you betcha!" Harley said. "We were being hunted down by them as well as fending off the kooks from my setting! And that's how we met Walt!"

"He was one of the ones sent after you?!" Ilulu said laughing. "What a twist!"

Dave shook his head. "Yes but that's not exactly accurate. That's how Harls met Walt. I had met Walt before. He'd trained me!"

"Ah," said Pirotess sipping her tea. "The master faces off with the pupil."

Harley nodded. "Yep and let me tell ya I'd rather be hunted by a dozen Batmen backed up by the whole stinking league then ever be in that situation again! He's like that "I'll be boch" guy had a baby with a looney tune and they let one a them fighting anime guys babysit and train the little fucker... or so I thought!"

Dave chuckled. "When Walt finally cornered us he didn't immediately take us back. He wanted our side of the story, listened to the whole thing and then sided with us. He went back and advocated our case on our behalf. Worked out a deal. I even kept my job but I could never be an active field agent again. Which was fine. I regret nothing."

Curie smiled. "Love conquers all, Oui? Of course Walter would feel that way. It is how he is. But... how did you end up this way if you don't mind my asking?"

Dave shook his head. "That is whole other story..." he saw Harley frowning. The idea of his impending demise still upset her so and it had been a good day. There was no need to spoil that now so near the days end. Later..."... for another time perhaps." He cleared his throat. "Boy am I tired," he said giving the others a wink and they giggled at the obvious bait he was dangling.

Bait Harley immediately pounced upon and pumped her fist. "Oh, hell yeah! I mean... uh, is that so Puddin'? Would ya like to "retire" to our secluded little cabin getaway and "rest", maybe?"

Dave smiled at her as the others giggled at Harley's obviousness. "You don't mind?"

Harley shook her head. "Nope! It's a big weekend ahead. We need to keep your "spirit" up!... among other things..." She kissed him and they waved. "Good night, Ladies!"

"Oh, Harley," Penny said. "Let me see you to the door." She knocked Harley's purse over quite intentionally. "Oh no, I am such a klutz. *Hic*" She stuffed a box that Courier Six had brought when they'd rush ordered a mega pack of Bozo Clown Condoms into her purse as she picked it up handing it to Harley. "Here you go, Harls!"

Harley tried not to laugh as Penny winked at her so much it looked like maybe she was having a seizure. "Thanks *Snort* Penny, my friend. Yer such a *chortle* dear! Have a good night gang... I know we will!"
